Hi,

I've got a 2006 H3 with the adventure package. It has 10000 kms on it and it seems to be falling apart. I really like the vehicle from a design and function prospective. My concern is reliability which unfortunately if you read my attached list would be questionable in my opinion.

Delivery 7/3/06
Dead Battery 7/3/06
Battery Replaced 7/4/06
On-Star Module malfunction 7/4/06
Replaced On-Star 8/10/06
Serpentine Belt Replaced 8/22/06
Door Rattle reported 8/22/06 still there
Total Brake Failure 9/11/06
Wind noise roof marker lights 9/11/06
TPM sensor problem 10/17/06
Driver door Harness came apart 1/8/07
Transfer case overhaul 1/15/07 still being worked on

The vehicle has not been off-roaded even though that was one reason for purchase. All mileage is highway.

I would be interested in other's opinions as to whether my expectations are too high. I know that in any manufacturing there is a probability that there will be the odd poorly made product, did I unfortunately purchase one?

The total brake failure and T-Case rebuild are totally un-acceptable.
Was the serpentine replaced and a precaution or did it break?

Your other problems seem relatively minor and fixable.

How have you been treated on the repairs?

My battery went dead too, my A pillar makes noise above 70mph and my check engine light has just come on. I hope it isn?t the cylinder head. If the Hummer turns out to be a bummer I will go back to Jeep or Toyota. This is my first GM product and so far the quality and fit and finish seems very good.

I agree. The fit and finish are great. I can live with the minor adjustments. The serpentine belt broke, the brakes totally failed and now the transfer case. I'm waiting for the head/valve issue as my vin appears to be in the range.

As to the dealership, they are a little wanting. The day I picked-up the vehicle it was dirty hadn't been washed, they couldn't find it, there was a dent i the passenger door and of course the battery was dead.

I had them install the marker lights which resulted in hand prints on the headliner.

Trucks been in their shop since last Tuesday and they are still waiting for parts. Unfortunately they are the only Hummer Dealer iin the province so they kinda have a monoploy on the market. They gave me a 2007 Malibu from Avis to drive with 1500 km on it and the engine is making a knocking sound. It's actually pretty amusing in a twisted sort of way.

I have 06 H3, w/ adventure pkg, 5speed. 11K miles. My First GM product.
-I have seen many a comment about GMs batteries. So I am not surprised some are bad. Not a deal breaker for me.
-Onstar Module - Mine (what ever it was) was not working when I bought the truck. Onstar couldn't get a data connection to the vehicle. Replaced under warranty. Not a deal breaker to me.
- Serpentine belt. That seems odd. But who knows. It was replaced under warranty. Not a deal breaker to me.
- Door Rattle - No idea. That should be fixed by dealer.
- Total Brake Failure - Again no idea. Should be fixed under warrenty. Makes me a little nervous.
- Wind noise roof marker lights - If you search here a bit you'll find this has been a reported issue since the first one rolled off the assembly line. Unfortunately you were not aware of it when you bought it. I understand GM has been trying to get a fix for this. I thought I had heard they have one, so that should be fixed (warranty). Not a deal breaker for me.
- TPM sensor problem - not sure what your issue is. Many here, including myself have reported and noted that the TPM will warn you on a cold winter day, and then go off when the tires warm up. I don't mind it (as long as it goes off after a few miles). Not a deal breaker for me.
- Driver door Harness came apart - No idea. Should be fixed.
- Transfer case overhaul - similar to Marker light noise. There has been some reported issues with 06 transfer cases. I believe the company making them for GM screwed up a bit. Left some lapping compound inside and after ? 5K-15K miles, it chews up your gears and you get a new transfer case. Yup. It's a bummer. But I am not putting too much fault on GM for that (until it happens to mine :) ). I think it is a pretty small (not wide spread) issue.

So it looks like a few things out of the ordinary have been going wrong. Well. Sometimes there are lemons, hence the need for the law. From whet I hear, tese issue don't qualify as lemon law issues unless they are reported, and cannot be fixed, or don't get fixed. Something like that.

I feel your pain. I love the truck. I am willing to put up with a few things because I love it. Hummer has a better reliability rate than Land Rover and Saab (just saw a JD Powers report on it today for 2006 cars), so that's good.

Good luck. I hope everything gets fixed and you have fun with it in the end.

You would think the dealer would take it upon themselves to halfway go through the car and especially with the first 2 times you came back with problems within a month of purchase. In any case I think we would say go to a different dealer, but thats not an option. You might want to seek legal advice about local lemon laws and as previously stated see if they might apply to your situation. I dont think its right you get the run around everytime, and a chevy malibu rental at that! :twak: Good Luck!!:beerchug:

Removed skid plate and pounded back into shape 4/23/06
Windshield wipers were getting a little sketchy 11/18/06
Replaced windshield wiper blades 11/19/06

1. the painless way, get and fork out and eat the trade diffrence and go buy something else.

2. work your game with GM/Hummer with direct calls to them not the dealer. Do not threaten, educate and stay on them untill they reach an offer to you.

3. Sechedule a sit down with the service Mgr. and the GM area rep who covers Hummer, explain the problems, bring in to them any service surveys unfilled out as a peace offering, and ask what they can do to make you happy.

4. leave the keys in it wile warming it up in the morning every day and everywhere till it's gone and make sure you have Gap insurance.

Delivery 7/3/06
Dead Battery 7/3/06 Batteries go dead. In your case, having been so close to delivey, I would bet dealer didn't charge while on lot, or it was dead in shipment and dealer only boosted to get it out of the lot.
Battery Replaced 7/4/06
On-Star Module malfunction 7/4/06 Early model gen 6 boxes had some problems. First time, I would bet they replaced with another early gen 6. Second time a revised gen 6 module
Replaced On-Star 8/10/06
Serpentine Belt Replaced 8/22/06 Very strange for a belt to go bad.
Door Rattle reported 8/22/06 still there
Total Brake Failure 9/11/06 This one....with the type of fluid circuits used nowadays, a total brake failure? For a total brake failure to happen, all the fluid in both circuits would have to dump. Sure it wasn't just an assist failure, in that the assist motor failed and you had non-assisted brakes? How did you stop the truck?
Wind noise roof marker lights 9/11/06 One reason why I will never have those lamps.
TPM sensor problem 10/17/06 Did the dealer replace a sensor, or just mark it on the repair order?
Driver door Harness came apart 1/8/07 Not sure how a door harness, attached to a door in a static position could come apart. More information...please. There are really no strains on a door harness attached to the metal door.
Transfer case overhaul 1/15/07 still being worked on Easy case to rebuild, are they waiting for parts? Might be some problems with parts not normally required getting in the supply pipe for GM of Canada or it might just be GM of Canada not stocking the parts (not uncommon).
The vehicle has not been off-roaded even though that was one reason for purchase. All mileage is highway.

I would be interested in other's opinions as to whether my expectations are too high. I know that in any manufacturing there is a probability that there will be the odd poorly made product, did I unfortunately purchase one?
I do have some questions....

I have had problems also, BUT would not have bought anything else.

Sunroof has leaking problem, at one point the inside floor was in a inch of water.. Fixed and new padding was put in. I say fixed because we havn't had a hard rain in a few months.

Three of the four outside door habdles have broke, one while dealer had it. Fixed.

Dead Battery. Not replaced yet.

Passenger side rear door won't open form inside. Not fixed

AC module went out, Fixed after a week of repairs.

Roof marker light marker noise, Living with it.

Windshield makes crackling noise, living with it.

Team and Compass on rear view mirror stop working, really don't care about it. I know if its hot or cold out, and I live at the beach so I am either going west, north or south.

Driver seat is somehoe fading it color, That sorta bothers me.

The jack dep't cover always pops off when I close the door. Oh well!

Front end, maybe the brakes makes grinding noise when I stop hard.

Service TPM comes on and goes off. Living with it.

But with all of that, I am STOKED TO HAVE A HUMMER!

Thanks f5fstop and the others for the questions and comments.

The brake failure was total. It was reported to Transport Canada who are continuing to monitor the issue as they didn't seem very convinced by the dealer's explanation when they called them. The dealer was of the opinion that air was in the system. They claim that the air may have been in the system directly from delivery and that it took sometime for it to make its way through the system. TC and I understand that this is an electro-hydraulic system. Luckily I was expecting it to occur as the pedal had felt strange as I left my driveway. Expecting that something might be wrong I hit the pedal and it gradually went right to the mat I took action by slowing down gradually and using the parking brake emergency brake to slow the vehicle. TC doesn't apparently buy the air in the system explanation so they were apparently still investigating.

As to the other question, the harness plug was apparently damaged during production which allowed the door side harness to fall into the door.

The sensor was replaced for the TPM

Oh I almost forgot about the rear brake problem. Needed to have the rear rotors machined as they were glazed along with new pads and claen-up of the calipers. I understand this is another common occurance.

Again thanks for the questions and comments.

That was the rear diff, not the t-case. Either way, fixed under warranty, like everything else.

I would definitely open a case with Hummer. Just explain what you've been through with the vehicle so far. They will get in touch with the Dealer's service department and may even compensate you with some sort of GMPP plan or service vouchers.

i have heard of one other vehicle that was delivered with air in the brake lines, but that was an immediate failure (less than 24 hours after delivery). I would also question the dealer on a vehicle with over two months on it. For a complete brake failure, the entire hydraulic system would have to bleed down. It can happen, but the chances are about a million to one. Godo thing you knew how to handle it.

Ok, harness plug...that's understandable, not good, but understandable. Probably someone forced it during assembly.

As for the TC, do you have the off-road package or the standard package? The Borg Warner cases are pretty darn robust, usually the problem with these is a noise can develop, but it won't affect operation. Early ones had problems with the transfer case control module (but now fixed) and the encoder motor (now fixed). (Not saying they still can't fail, just the likelihood is now random versus most likely.)

i had the same problem with the battery--only it happened while i was driving. the brakes also began to fail at the same time. that was because they are linked, as well as all other electronic devices, to the distributor, which, in my case, was faulty.

look at that!!

24,000 miles and 15 months later and I have only been to the dealer for a front end allignment and a free car wash. This is the first GM vehicle for me and I have to say it has been the most reliable and fun of all of my past cars/trucks. No complaints from me!

Hi,

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions.

I did call Hummer directly as someone suggested and unbeknown to me at the time of purchase; if you bought your Hummer in Canada, they are unable to assist even though the literature mentions them as a source for assistance. It's unfortunate as they seemed to be pretty helpful.

MarineHawk

... they are unable to assist ...

Wrong. They are unwilling to assist. These types almost always say "we can't help you," when they really mean "we won't help you." It just sounds better that way.
