I can see the news now: Sacramento woman arrested while stripping front end from H3 Alpha in dealer's lot. She was muttering over and over: "It's MINE, MINE I tell you!" The cast iron affliction may be contagious, she is being quarantined pendnig further observations. Scattered reports throughout the country have come in of other new H3 Alphas missing their front differential assemblies.
Me, I'm going to take out he stock bolts and put security headed bolts on the sucker when I get my Alpha!!!!

Ok...
New front axle,
One of the new colors is like a dark metal gray with I believe a blue tint coat and it is metallic. Hard to tell in the lighting I saw it in.
As for price, I hear more than 2K. Can't say for sure....just rumors.

I was told it will be in the eight inch range and will be cast iron (don't tell Bebe :jump: ). I think they said 8.5, but cannot verify that with the one we have been playing with since it is not a total 08; just an 07 with the 5.3L.
As I said there was not much difference, in my opinion between a 3.7L and the 3.5L, there is quite a difference between the 3.7L and the 5.3L. You can actually beat those dang H2s; that is, until you come across an 08 with the 6.2L.:p
The trans stays the same, or at least the one I have been playing with is the same.:jump:
Personally, I may have to rethink the V8 thing since I'm hearing that the color I want will only be offered on the Alpha or the Bling X version.
Still no info on fuel mileage tests or pricing, but as I said earlier, rumor has it the price will be over 2K. Which makes sense, a more expensive engine and front axle.

That's $666.66666666666666666666666 a cylinder!!!
The $666 question is, how much would H3 owners pay for the cast iron front diff alone!? My guess is that it very well may be cheaper to simply buy a new Alpha!

i really hope that the h3 alpha has more real off road stuff than what has been shown on the website. i mean, this is definitely a step in the right direction and i am certain that there are other new features not listed on the sneak peek.
how about on-the-fly tire pressure indicators and an inflation/deflation system?
how about a suspension set up that comes standard with 35"x12.5" tires and capable of handling 37's without a torsion adjustment?
how about a snorkel and deeper water fjording abilities?
what about some of the other great things that made the h1 alpha so unique?
i know the market is smaller for these types of items, but it would be great if they could be added as upgrades and still be covered under the overall vehicle warranty.
if they are going to produce an alpha, they should make an ALPHA!!! right?

I think F5 was saying around an extra 2 G's.
F5 said he THOUGHT. However, let me add from what I have heard, the Alpha package is a fully loaded package. Similar to the lux package, but with the engine.
Rumor has it, that is the only way to get the V8, but that is a RUMOR. Needless to say, I have no connections or friends in marketing.:clapping:
I have a lot of questions myself, such as the chrome POS front brush guard, is that standard on the Alpha? Can I get a black one vs. the chrome bling?
Just too many questions right now that only marketing can answer.
However, I do have one that someone asked me and that is plug changes. After the plastic engine shield is removed, spark plug access is no problem. That shield makes it look like the engine is crammed in, but there is a lot of room between engine and body.
You also have to remember, what you are seeing is a SHOW Vehicle. My worry about the chrome brush guard may not be a problem, since this is a SHOW vehicle. I would guess, sometime around May, prices, standard options and available options will be released to the dealer. Maybe earlier...

Sewie,
You can't harsh a guy for dreaming!!!! Not sure if i like the little head bashing icon. I prefer this little guy >>>>> :dancingbanana:
The H1 ALPHA's came with snorkels, at least the ones I have been in did. Maybe it is too much for the soccer mom and mall warrior style H3's, but just imagine being able to go through a 36-40 inch deep body of water with no worries!!! As stated, they should at least be offered as a factory installed option.
I am particularly impressed by the seemingly airtight cabin on the H3. Many people comment on how quiet the ride is and I am convinced that it is somewhat close to being water tight from the bottom. I have not submerged mine up to the doors yet, except at high speed through a small area. I am sure somebody here has and knows whether or not the water seeps in...
Does anyone know the estimated/projected fuel economy of the H3 ALPHA?
All in, I paid $41k for my 2006 Adventure package including california tax, title and license and the options. The only thing I have added since is a higher gain XM Antenna. Can't wait until the 33's wear out so I can upgrade to 35's!
Not sure on the $60k price tag, but I believe there is a market that would gladly pay $50k for an H3 ALPHA with V8, real tires, front locker, deeper fjording capabilities, heavy duty roof rack, and that CTIS would just be the sh*t!!!! I know I would.

Sewie,
You can't harsh a guy for dreaming!!!! Sure I can. ;)
The H1 ALPHA's came with snorkels, Nope. Not standard. And a snorkel does not constitute a deep water fording kit. FYI - the fording depth for the H1 is 30", only 6" more than the H3.
Not sure on the $60k price tag, but I believe there is a market that would gladly pay $50k for an H3 ALPHA with V8, real tires, front locker, deeper fjording capabilities, heavy duty roof rack, and that CTIS would just be the sh*t!!!! I know I would.
The H1 is a completely different beast, with 4 wheel independent suspension, geared hubs, inboard brakes, etc. etc. CTIS may not even possible on an H3. That's mainly why you got a :twak: .
If F5 is right, and the Alpha comes as a package with the Lux interior, etc., then I'd expect it to come pretty close to $50K without all options you're mentioning. My $60K comment was actually being generous.

yeah what does cast iron mean? no more ifs? solid axle? tell me!
the current front axle has an aluminum housing that tends to flex, causing the pinion to ride up on the ring destroying the gears. Newer ones have been hardened, and it appears it has helped, but the best would be a cast iron housing that does not flex.

If it is a larger diff the carrier bracket is different as well. So to replace the front diff, would get a little pricey.
We would have to get the complete case, R&P, bushings, bearings etc., etc, carrier bracket and bushings....blah blah bliggity blah (timgco:giggling: ), unless we could get the pumpkin already assembled, then just pay to install. Either way, dealer only item.

I hope so. And the way the new bumper sticks out kinda makes me think they went bigger. :shhh:
The new bumper is for "car to truck capability". That way when you hit that car infront of you, you don't ride up over the top of the rear bumper. Nothing to do with the front axle.

Ahhh, thanks for the clarification. :)
Are the mounting points the same so you can swap back to an old bumper and get your approach angle back? :shhh:

At least we don't require the rear bar like in Europe. I wonder how hard it would be to remove when off-roading? I understand the possible liability if you remove it for highway driving and run over a Prius (that does sound like fun though).

The H1 ALPHA's came with snorkels, at least the ones I have been in did.
The Alphas do NOT come from the factory with snorkels. Maybe the ones you've been in had them added by the owners.
I am particularly impressed by the seemingly airtight cabin on the H3. Many people comment on how quiet the ride is and I am convinced that it is somewhat close to being water tight from the bottom. Trust me, they're not "water tight" if they're in water past the bottom of the door for more than a couple of minutes.I have not submerged mine up to the doors yet, except at high speed through a small area. I am sure somebody here has and knows whether or not the water seeps in...

A little more something would have been nice for the interior on the ALPHA. Perhaps different gauges, a nice DIC, steering wheel controls, etc. The V8 will be cool however.

The only difference inside will be the Alpha emblem on the steering wheel and head rests. You can't tell the difference in the gauges.

UGGHH!!! These H3s are getting worse than computers! Every year an updated and better model. :( Guess I better jump in for the 08 Alpha or I'll be waiting for the next upgrade, than the next upgrade.... Any hints, though? :D

Ummm.. Sure it'll breath higher, but what you gonna do about the rest of those electrical parts that don't dig being under water.. Alternator, fuse box, batteries, etc...

It ain't even close to watertight.. I dipped a rental H3 into a hole a bit to deep, had to be snatched out backwards and ended up with 3 inches of water in the floorboard in less than a minute.. Someguy on here dumped on off into a pond sideways a good while back and the moment he hit water it fried most of the electrical stuff in the truck.. Doors wouldn't unlock, windows wouldn't roll down..

unbelievable. for months people have been bitching that there was no enough on-road power. now hummer's giving us a quick v8 and probably at the least the same or better gas mileage, and now there's bitching that the guages are not different. whine whine whine.:lame: :lame: :lame:

I don't really care that it's got the V8 other than it adds Flex-Fuel capacity. I think some interior changes would have been nice to separate the H3 ALPHA from the H3 however. If the price difference is only $2,000, then I guess it's not really a big deal.
ROAR! :D

The skid-plate looks bullet proof! And then there's a second shield. Awesome! The more plates the better!

The flex fuel thing is useless. I can count the number of stations selling it around here with my ear hole. That's right, 0. It's a gimmick, schpeel, non-event. IF the thing comes with those stupid flexfuel badges, I'm heat gunnin' 'em off immediately and replacing them with Jolly Rogers.
All those skidplates look great, wonder if they're options?

Huck,
In my humble opinion, Flex-fuel or H2 are the growing technologies of the next 10-15 years. Flex-fuel or bio-diesel are the only two oil alternatives that are going to work short-term, as H2 is going to be a long, long way from anything like a HUMMER (unless you don't mind filling up every 100 miles). Gas will likely go up as China, India, and other countries expand, and as the oil-wealthy nations continue to be unfriendly. Some of the only near term solutions are:
1. Discover more oil domestically (highly expensive)
2. Blow the bits out of those countries and set up our own infrastructure (highly expensive and slow)
3. Grow our own fuel (Think Brazil; very possible as the distribution networks are there, and we're familiar with liquid fuels)
4. Stop driving
It's not really an environmental issue (though there are environmental benefits when using switchgrass or sugar cane), but simply (I think) the changing nature of our world and economy. Personally, whatever I drive next I want to have flex capability because it's coming, even if it's not here today. Though corn has to go away as the production source.
Anyway, back to the gloriousness of the H3 ALPHA! :D
