I know this has been discussed many times, but i would like some more recent answers and imput. Currently i dont have the marker lamps on but i sceduled an appoinment to get them on Monday. I have heard many people saying how it is sooo much noiser with them. Has anyone gone from no marker lamps to now having em, if so is it that much worse? And for those who have had it from the begging does your car seem to have louder wind noise than it should>? Thanks

How long ago did you get them put on, cause they were on recall so I wonder if they fixed that problem when they were on recall.

I was told at the time I purchased my rig that the lights were on hold due to noise/vibration. Hence a recent issue of dealing with two different dealerships that I have posted on this forum http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25678
I was glad that Hall Hummer warned me, Phil Causey told me about this issue right up front. He explained to me that any dealership would be able to mount the lights once a retro kit was passed. But he wouldn't mount the lights until GM passed a new, second retro kit.
From the info Phil shared with me the other day, the dealerships must install certian add-ons, and the cost of the lights is all they have to put forward. The labor to do this is billed to GM, and they will be sent a check. And he sent me the light kit via fedx overnight.
I will of course return these lights to Wright as they have already put the lights on. They can bill GM, which they would do anyway.

So do you have em on, and did they say that the lights are now okay to put on.

We have had two H3's.
The first one had the oem roof mounted off road lights which basically has what to me appeared to be about the same plastic base, other than one has the configuration for two lights and the other has the marker lights. Never had a sound out of them. We got the base one in January 2006.
We traded that one in, a base model, for an adventure and had the marker lights installed on the second one prior to pickup.
Now with the marker lights anytime we are going over 50 mph and there is a headwind coming at us of at least 30 mph or more we get a whapping sound from above...
I think how the technician installs them puts a factor in the whole thing, which makes it a crap shoot.
As a sidenote, when there is no headwind coming at the truck, I can go 75 and there is no whapping at all.

Okay, so it really doesnt occur often then? And is the slapping sound a big annoyence or is it tolerable? And ya i could imagine its how their installed.

Unfortunately, wind is a major pain in our part of central Montana, so yeah it occurs quite often 50% of the time on the highway. If your in a less windy area, then maybe not such a big issue.
The slapping sound is a big annoyance to me, I always slow down cause I don't know if the dang thing is going to break or what.
I may try and put Gorilla tape on the windshield and the base of the marker light to keep the wind from getting in between for our CO/UT trip.
I'm to the point that I may put some clear caulking in the space between the plastic base and roof later this spring.

Ohhhhh so theres a space between the plastic base and the thing the marker lamps are attached too?! no wonder its makeing that noise ill just check it before i drive away if it has the space if it does ill have fix it if not were all good. And no wind usually isnt a problem down here in South Florida execpt for a Hurricane so thats no big deal. Also im hardly ever on the highway so i would never be going fast for a long period of time (often that is) that would bother me.

Basically the bottom of the plastic base is sitting on your metal roof.

This link is from a a member of the old forum, I'm not sure if he is still around. Scroll down to where he is installing his off road light kit. It
gives you a pretty good idea of what they are going to do to your
truck.
Yeah, if you aren't going to get much wind or do much highway driving with it, then probably won't be much of a problem.
