My family and I moved here (Syracuse, NY) a year ago and recently bought a H3. The problem is that while there is allot of wilderness around here I cant find a place to go off roading with my new H3. Can anyone help or point me in the right direction in looking for some trails? This might be a long shot but Im itchin for some 4 wheelin. Thanks!

Do a search on the web for trails and ny. You would be surprised at the trail info that is out there.

This is a great place to find trails and also some fellow Hummer owners to go with you.

My mother in law has a house in bainbridge we cruze around that area and up around norwich.
We stumble across many trails.
If you see a snowmobile sign on the side of the road and another on the oposite side of the road about 1/4 mile up,there is a trail in between.
Most of them are wide and some go deep into the woods, some are overgrown in the summer.some are just dirt roads going to old logging trails.

One time we found old graves in the middle of nowhere.
There on the moderate side so not to much risk of getting stuck if wheeling by yourself.

The best one I found was before I got my navigation and I cant remember where it is.

Here are some picks you might want to contact the snowmobile club.
If you find other places up ther to wheel please list them.
Im going up there next weekend :jump:

The spirits were restless that day,I dont think they liked me taking a leak in there area.
They were dated in the late 1700's

What you see is some smoke from my cigarette.(at least I think it was the cigarette)might have been something else :beerchug:

Popo - initiation into the club...you must post pics of your rig. :)

Sorry I cant be of more help. I am also in Syr area. Don't have too much time to find the trails while out driving. But if I find any, I'll let you know. I'll keep my eye out for you driving around town. Over the past year, I've seen more and more H3s driving around. :) I'm driving a red one. Nothing distict about it except I have an "original" one - black lugnut protection. :)

Thank you all for your replies. I will post a pic of my H3 asap, but the problem is it wont be dirty cause I cant find any trails to get it dirty:violin: I have searched the net but have found nothing around here. I will do some more asking around and post my findings. My H3 is black and has a Navy license plate frame - yes Im in the Navy. Anyway Ill post back tomorrow with some news hopefully. Thanks again to all who posted.

just go and create your own trail

The only legal places to wheel are in the links I gave earlier.

rant/on

DO NOT create your own trail.

The new forest orders allow up to a $6000 fine AND 6 months in jail if you get caught.

Besides, we are supposed to be responsible wheelers and providing an example to future generations.

I e mailed the local national forest and got this reply.
I did ask about off roading in a truck /suv and they replyed as ATV ?
I did reply to his email asking to clarify ATVhttp://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif,but it looks like they dont allow 4 wheelinghttp://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/images/icons/icon8.gif

Dear John -

ATVs are not permitted on Finger Lakes National Forest, nor any of the
town, county, or states roads in this area. I would suggest contacting
the
NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation and ask for ATV use areas on
State
lands, or do a Google search for ATV areas and/or clubs in NYS.

Please let us know how we may be of further assistance.

Thank you,
Andrew
