Hi All,

First, I love my H3 and am happy I bought it. However, the gas mileage is worse then what I was hoping for. I'm pretty much all city driving about 50-50 with air conditioning. I've had the vehicle for 3 months and racked up close to 1,000 miles, average mpg 11.5?

Is this what other city drivers are getting or am I low?

Ouch! You could drive an H2 with that mileage http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

From what I have seen posted the mileage will get better over the break-in period. I will keep my fingers crossed.

I think the millage will be a critical factor in the success of the H3. If GM would have made it like 19 city 24 hwy. they would sell 3 times more...This was my only concern about the H3. I have one now and love it, but my stomach is bit upset at fill up time.

i agree mileage is pathetic, i got close to 15 mpg with my K&N and the cover off the airbox. with a real light foot... but usually average 13 or 14.. very lame

I sure hope it goes up. I would hate to give up my V8 SUV with more than enough power for an I5 with worse mileage.

Actually, since there is a Hummer wrapped around that I5, I guess I could deal with it http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

As much as I would like to see better mileage, I can't complain when all the pluses of this vehicle are added.

I think that the 11.5 average is horrible. I had about the same about of millage and was driving up steep hills (Snoqualmie Pass) with the air conditioner on. I was late and was driving hard like 75-80 MPH. I still got about 15 - 16 MPG. I consistently get 17 MPG and I have some steep hills in my area, however I don't use the air conditioner that much in this 75 degree weather. The automatic (which I have) may be different then a standard but shouldn't be that much (even if you have a standard transmission).

1,000 miles in three months is not a lot of driving. Maybe you have a lot of starting the engine cold that is eating up your gas. Or real short trips.

H3Lady

I went on a 200 mile all hwy trip and got 18+

cruise at 65 and no highter.

A heavy vehicle is bad in the city for stop and go and short trips.

I've about 1200 miles on mine (in less than a month!) and have averaged right at 14 mpg in mostly suburban (stop and go) traffic. I'm neither surprised nor disappointed with that.

17mpg??? where do you get your gas? are you using 87? i have never seen that good a number and i got about 2300 miles on it.. do you drive it fast? i mean i spent all last tank trying to barely use the pedal and going real slow on onramps and what not, and by just under a 1/4 tank i had like 230 miles on the tank when i filled up. my mileage sucks... and i got the 33's i think urs does too

I filled up and got 18.5 gallons at the pump. The tank holds 23. It was $40.75 to fill it up to 18.5, and I got 258 Miles out of the tank. That's almost 14 MPG.

Now, with that in mind, that was several starts and stops (moving stuff around in the garage), picking up mail at the mailbox, showing my friends the new car, etc. Which was a lot of starts and stops! Most of this was city driving, with 1 minor highway run (about 20 miles). I could have easily pulled over 300 miles out of the tank, but wanted to fill up as I was approaching the E mark.

I am not complaining though! It's better than what I was thinking it would be, and according to my friend, he's getting like 10 MPG on his Ford F150! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

I have about 1000 miles on my new H3 and have kept track of MPG for the last 3 fill-ups. My recordings are as follows:

15.175 mpg
15.881 mpg
15.163 mpg

This is city driving around the burbs in Denver. Each time I filled up when the tank was about half full. My previous vehicle was a Nissan Pathfinder with a 3.5L V-6 and it averaged about 16-18 mpg.

It would be nice if the H3 got better MPG. Maybe it will improve in time and after my first oil change (switch to synthetic) and K&N filter. 17 mpg would be nice.

These numbers don't seem to far off from my 6-cyl Jeep Grand Cherokee. It averages 16.5 with mostly freeway speeds.

I'm getting about 550 to 600 Km per tank (you do the math)almost all highway. I have about 8000 KM on my truck. It gets about the same milage as my wife's Ford Escape with the V6.

In the GTA as well. Where did you purchase your H3 from? And how many km's are you getting around the city? Just curious.....thanks

Because with an extra $20K in your pocket, you can buy one hell of a lot of gas http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I've noticed most gas stations won't let me buy more than $43.00 worth of gas. So "fill-up" is never more than $43.00.

Yikes, you guys are scaring me. I will be trading my M3 which goes like a raped ape, holds 16 gallons, gets 21/25 mpg, and goes 420 miles on a tank of gas on the highway cruising at 85 - 95. 250 miles out of a large tank of gas while babying the throttle is rediculous, especially for a vehicle that was built with good gas milage as a goal. It is possible that a vehicle can get bad gas mileage if it is underpowered and the engine is straining all of the time. I wonder if that is the case here. I'm used to buying 14 - 15 gallons every two or three weeks.

This is really gonna suck for me.

That is an odd amount. Around here the pumps tend to stop at $60. First found this out last hurricane season when filling the truck and a bundh of 5 gallon gas cans http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Grim, sounds to me that the mileage will get better over the breakin period. It is still better than I am getting now so no problem for me. BTW, any luck finding a Florida dealer to deal with?

Newbie,
I started the process with the Jax dealer last Wednesday after my fallout with the Orlando dealer. At first I had great hopes becuause the salesman was very excited to get my order. I faxed him all of the info on packages, etc, and he actually called me back and said that the vehilce had to be ordered, and that he would take care of things first thing in the morning. Next day he called me back (just as he said he would) and said that "Hummer had all of the info on my order", but he would not take a deposit. He thought that he might have an orer number on Monday, and he thought that he would take a deposit at that time. On Monday he called, just as he said he would, and he was concerned about the value I was asking for my trade. (I was aksing for Kelly BB trade in value.) It seemed as if he had just read my fax for the first time. I told him to ignore that - I had other options - and so we were supposed to move forward. He assured me taht everything was "right there on his desk". That was four days ago, and it was the last time I heard from him. He seemed enthusiastic, and he did call me at the times that he said he would call, but it has been nine days and he still has not asked for a deposit. I have waited all week before calling back because I got into such hot water with the Orlando dealer for calling and asking for a status. I will give him a call later this morning. Nearly four weeks of trying and I still do not have a confirmed order.

Opps...I posted the previous before I was ready.

Just called the salesman, and I didn't get much concrete information. He answered the phone by saying that I would have the opportunity to pick up my new vehicle at the all-new storefront in Jaxonville. I asked him if that meant that the thing was actually on order. He said "oh yeah". I reminded him that I have not yet given him a deposit. He seemed unconcerned, saying that, at some point, maybe next week sometime, he probably should get a deposit from me. I asked him if there was an order number or some such thing, and he said he would check with his inventory manager and call me back with that information.

It all sounds positive, but I still don't have any solid evidence that I am locked into the queue. He has been good about calling me back in the past, and so I'll wait to hear from him.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm getting 17MPG on average.
Mainly freeway driving and have 2500 miles on it.
I expect it to get to around 18.5-19 after 6000 or so.

This is fine with me and as good, if not better, than the Jeeps I've owned.

Grim,

Congratulations, at least it sounds like things are moving along on your order. So you will get to pick it up at the new storefront, any idea when that is supposed to be done. Not good news if they won't have it complete for 3 months http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif Don't know why it is taking so long but my salesman told me that mine should be in sometime after Sept 1st. It's already been 4 1/2 months, so whats several more weeks http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

HNewbie,
Wow, 4 1/2 months! You are much more patient than I. I guess I should not complain about my delays. I started into this thing with the idea that I would have to wait maybe two months, but that was under the assumption that I would walk in to a dealership, place an order, and walk out with an order number. Must be that your order was not placed until long after you requested one. I am baffeled that many folks here seem to walk into a dealership and simply place an order, while others of us can not. Wierd system.

HummerNewbie
08-05-2005, 04:20 PM
I think you were totally correct in your assumption that you could just walk in and place the order. That is how it should be. The main reason that I have been waiting so long is the color. I really wanted the Slate Blue and decided to wait for it. I could have had a Red one from the first batch that they received but wanted the blue. It really hit home how long it had been when I pulled out my paperwork the other day when I was going to get my deposit back and the date was March 18th http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif There was no pricing available at that time and the dealers, at least mine, were only taking deposits to be on the waiting list. No actual orders could even be placed yet. I guess I now know what it means to be on the waiting list http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I just filled mine up and checked the mileage again. I have 1,100 miles on mine and the last tank got 14.8 MPG. That's mostly city driving, A/C on most of the time and babying the throttle. I have the 33" tires also.

I'm hoping for a little better down the line, but I'll take it.

I don't understand the delay you guys are getting either! I went to the dealer on June 28th, the order was place June 29th, production date was July 25th and its on the train on the way to my dealer. Got my order number and VIN number. Expected delivery is August 12th. I'm getting the slate blue. And gee, no deposit, just a handshake. To stay on topic it will be interesting to see what my mileage will be on the 250 ride home. Of course comes with a full tank of gas and will refill when I get off the interstate at about 200 miles.

Hello world.
My first post here.
I'm curious, how much do you have to pay for gas there in the States (or/and Canada)? (per gallon or per liter)
Price here in Sweden is about $1,56/liter or $5,90/gallon and more than 70% of it is taxes...
With a yearly income of about $52000 (the average for a working class heroe is about half of that) makes it a pretty expensive thing to drive a car here...

Georgemarc

Yes, you need to move to the States. Gas in Dallas Texas is $2.25/gallon

canucksnaphook

Stiffler..

We pay for regular unleaded about .90 per litre in canada. I have no idea what that is per gallon. And our taxes on fuel is something like 55%. Everyday people bitch about gas prices etc. I cant imagine how upset people are there !!

cheers !
