Finally had the time to replace the K&N Filter with the True Flow foam filter (http://www.trueflow.com/part_find.php?make=Hummer&model=H2&year=2003&engine=6.0L&old_make=Hummer&old_model=H2&old_year=2003&old_engine=#):

Big difference!! with the K&N installed I noticed alot more fine particulate getting into the throttle body and found it definately allowed air flow through but at the expense of quality air flow. When I initally installed the K&N I had the engine light come on a few times and figured it must be due to the MAF recaliberating the air flow sensor, this took a couple of days to settle in. The same occured with the Foam filter, after two days the engine light went away and I noticed a definate smoother acceleration and top end gain. You can feel it when you punch it and/or accelerate over 70mph. Best thing is that I no longer have to worry about dust or fine particulates getting into the motor and dirtying up the intake and engine oil. With less grit, the engine will last longer and breathe easier. Nicest part of all is that it fits right into your factory air box, just take the old paper filter out and slip the foam one in. Before installing the foam filter I completely cleaned the intake and MAF with a throttle body cleaner and MAF cleaner, I then hosed down and cleaned the factory filter box and resonator, finally, I hooked up all the components and can say without a doubt, the truck truely runs great. Now I just need to replace the front differential, but thats another story!

Cheers.

Make sure the Tru-Flows aren't saturated with oil...I think they've fixed the problem but a year or so ago they were going out soaked with oil. The Lightning guys (and I had one for my L) had issues with the MAF getting soaked with all of the oil being sucked into the intake tract. They also had lots of problems with erratic A/F readings when using the Tru-Flows and now none of the Lightning parts vendors will even carry them anymore.

After installing an intake you sould disconnect the neg batt terminal for 10 min. This will reset the computer, and the truck will learn the new air flow parameters quicker. It sould also keep you from getting the engine light.

I got the AFE Mangmum Force... love it

The only problem with foam filters... Is every single one deterioate and falls apart slowly, which sends small foam particles into your engine...
I preffer the K&N filter or the S&B filters...

Guys- this has been debated dozens of times already, the aftermarket foam filters are crap.

You're taking off a part with plenty of engineering behind it that performs better than everything else and installing a filter that does a worse job and then imagining it performs better by the "seat of the pants".

Run both filters on the strip and see what the difference is, then have a oil analysis done after running a foam filter and post here how much silica they'll find.

Save the headache and do a search here, the test data has already been posted.

I never tried this filter, but i did take my k&n off and i think the truck runs better with the stock element so if anyone wants to buy a k&n im sellin mine
