off-roading on my new Procomp M/T's

Here are few pics a grabbed during off-roading today - the Procomp Xtreme M/T's appear to work very well, I was able to get through places where my previous tires kept spinning. Also, these M/T's don't seem to be noisy on the road. For those looking for more aggressive tires then regular A/T's I'd say this could be a good choice. I don't feel that I lost any road performance and the vehicle is very agile overall. Really like my H3 much more now - this is what is was supposed to be from the day one I guess. Oh, I like the look of M/T's a well...

Sorry for lack of "action" pics - I drive alone so I usually park at suitable spots. My wife may go with me next time, I'll definitely ask her to take images while climbing through rough spots...

I forgot to add the specs; these are 33's (33.1" according to manufacturer) LT285/75/R16 - D load range, 3-ply sidewalls. I wanted Hummer recommended/stock size to stay within factory specs for now; maybe at some point later I'll upgrade to 35's, but I was concerned about street performance with 35" set since I drive the truck daily around the town. I practically feel like having a new vehicle after I got rid of the 20" set and removed low-hanging chrome nerf bars - huge improvement in the side's clearance - not worried when climbing over terrain now. I may install the OEM rocker bars for protection.

Tires seem quiet on the road (I expected worse), only when turning the noise sometimes increases a bit, I guess the rough sides make more contact with the pavement that way. Dealer inflated them to 35psi and that's where I left them for now. I think I can air down significantly if needed (once I get onboard compressor). These ProComps are also supposed to be very resistant to punctures - very important to me because the terrain we have here.. finally - ProComps are Made in U.S.A.

nice, ya thats what im doing im moving up but only to 33". Im gonna go with the Bridgestone Dueler all terrains, becuase i need it to stil be covered under my tire warranty. The way everyone in my family goes through tires becuase of nails, that is a major necessaity. How is it wheeling with those compared to the 32's? And about the low haning nerf bars, what i do with mine is i take em on and off. Whenever i head to some places for wheeling that i know i need the extra clearence i jsut crawl under the car and take em off about 30 minutes to get em off. Mine are black though so it doesnt take away from the intesity of the vehicle.

..I originaly wanted 33" Duelers too - but then my dealer offered M/T's for only little more (because they asked fortune for D load Duelers already, so the $ difference was small at that point). Seems that there are several version of Duelers supplied by Hummer (and by dealers as replacement), some are only C load rated ( Dueler A/T RH-S for instance?). I don't know how much it matters, but I'd probably want the stronger one (D load rated) - I saw them in person and they look strong. Yes, the nerf bars are easy to remove and reinstall - driver side has tighter access though but OK. I doubt that I'll reinstall mine, however they possibly prevent dents on the parking lots...so, maybe...but truck looks so much better without them, not to mention 20" of side's vertical clearance now..can't beat that.

thanks! - it was about time for me to get decent ones, I was long overdue; I've been looking for tires since early September.. now I need to get that compressor mentioned earlier, and maybe a few more usefull things. I don't have rear locker (base H3), so I may be able to offset that somewhat by airing down a bit?

By far at least 5 times ive seen people open the door and smack the bars with their door. Leaving a nice size dent in there door and nothing on mine. And then they get pissed at me haha. IT really helped once some old person hit my car while backing in but only got the nerf bar so it just dented the bracket a bit instead of scractching and denting my whole car.

yes, I purchased these through my Hummer dealer; they ordered 5 tires, 5 sensors and sold me 5 take-off rims thay had in stock already (I didn't have stockers). I took the vehicle in and they did the swap while I was hanging around/waiting. Then they loaded my oversized 20's on the pickup truck, followed me home and unloaded to my garage. It wasn't cheap purchase, but I have now warranty through the dealer, and not through some discount outlet or online seller that may be hard to deal with - if there is a problem with the tire (puncture etc), sensor or anything else, I'll just go to the dealer with it.

You may be right about the nerf bars - but maybe some of those aftermarket rockers that stick out more then OEM's would do the same job as nerf bars, while not hanging low but still preventing the parking lot dents? Think I've seen a set by FabTech(?) around the forum, they had steps too and not too low placement.

Big Dad, none yet... I haven't had them in thick mud or in Sand... But rock crawling they do great.... But, I went from the BFG AT to the Procomps. So this is my first set of Muds... A little bit more noise then the BFG AT's but not much...

I got these in 37s (3 for 4!:beerchug:) and the are so choice!:D

The BFG M/T 35s I had on before took 10 - 15oz to balance the tires.:(

These Procomps were averaging about 2-3oz to balance. That says alot for an M/T. Especially 37"s.:beerchug:

They're shuffling available ones everywhere because of the demand and the main stock held up. Our dealer had 8 pairs here 2 weeks ago and some dude in Nebraska took them all. He would have taken all 12 pairs but I got my meathooks on em 3 days before.:clapping:

all right! so how are they ?

for me, while good on the street, they seem to shine in the terrain - I don't have rear locker but I feel that these tires help offset it quite a bit. I went off-road today for a few hours once again and although it can take some serious spinning when climbing through the steeper hill (dirt, with deeper ruts and sharp rocks), the tires will eventually find the traction and get me through (however this rougher terrain leaves occasional marks on the treads unfortunately due to those sharp rocks).

STOP!!!Anything smaller than 315/75/16 and you are wasting your hard earned cash.This is the same size as the h2 except 16''.I have 315/75/16 bfg A/T and they look sick and the ride is a massive upgrade.:soapbox:

From all the posts I've been reading about 35's it seems that they?re great if you use your H3 mainly for off-roading or/and if you want really sharp, tough look. However, 33's (M/T) seem to be perfect match for both street and off-road. I feel that there isn't any performance impact, 33's don't require any modification of the ride height, and 33's leave plenty of space in the wheel wells for the tires to move (and turn) freely while in rough terrain without any rubbing worth to mention or any other side-effects. 35's are higher, quite wider, and can be heavy too (Toyos about 70 pounds?). Oh well, this all has been discussed before. Whatever works. While 35? tire is apparently impressive, I disagree that 33's are waste of $$$ - they do great job off-road, just returned from the day trip once again, been whole day on the trail today (Indio and Joshua Tree NP area). But, one thing I probably want to install soon is front leveling kit - besides the better look (level!) it should create even more clearance in the front wheel wells. Also some better/stronger front shocks I guess would help, particularly when "diving" down from the steeper hills and other scenarios where the vehicle weight is concentrated on the front (sharp braking etc)?

That said, I'm considering 35's after my 33's will wear enough to justify the tire swap, but I may wait with 35's until next H3 with the more powerful 5.3L V-8 engine, the new stronger front diff etc. I may install 35's at some point but it is probably going to be mainly for looks since 33's are definitely competent in the terrain - particularly 33" M/T's.
