Hey men

I had an engine light come on the dash yesterday, All gauge functions, such as temps, etc.. are normal, but the engine check light is on.

Today I stopped by Autozone and plugged in the OBDll into the inlet on my Rig, I got 2 codes, 2 of the same codes P0430, I then printed out a definition of the codes on paper. After unplugging the tester from the inlet on my rig, the code went away?

catalyst efficiency low-bank2
explanation

The oxygen Sensors monitor the catalytic converters ability to store oxygen.

Probable Causes-

1-Catalytic Converter defective (failure possibly due to #2, #3, #4)

2- Engine misfire or running condition

3- Large vacum leak

4-Engine oil leakage into exhaust-valve guide seals, piston rings.

I have 30,000 miles on my 2004 H2, Street miles and well taken care of.
I have crawled under the rig and checked all nuts and bolts for tightness on the exhaust sytem, so no leaks there. I am hearing a rattling sound under the vehicle near the cat when I take off from a stop, or when I power break but then as the rpms climb it goes away, only under a first start load.

What would you do first?

I know I can take it to the dealer and have no worries, my only concern is that these guys always try sticking it in without any lube and it always hurts.
They have no consideration for a mans time.

OEM oxygen sensors are 129.00 dollars each, (2) needed
After market sensors are 59.00 dollars each, (2) needed
Money is not one of my problems so Im not trying to penny pinch but I hate paying top dollar for the exact same part, just a different bag, so what would you do?

Thanks men

Sounds like your #2 Cat is bad. I have had both cats replaced on my 03 H2. It is covered under warranty untill 80K/Miles. The Dealer told me this is pretty common especially if you make alot of short trips in you H2.

Under Warranty?

My warranty expired last april, No I didnt get the extended warranty cause it already expired when I got this rig from my friend.

Is this something that would still be considered by the dealer as theyre item?

What makes you think #2 vs #1?

Thanks

My dealer told me that all GM vehicles have a 80K warranty on Cats. They are required to have it. I am looking at my service records. Looks like the code i threw was P0420: Low Efficiency Bank1.

Tech notes: replaced left side cat. Convertor

This was done at 54K miles. total work billed to $570.

Customer Cost: $0

I do not have an extended warranty.

Right you are, Thanks for your contribution, much appreciated, I just learned the same thing, just coming home from cerritos hummer, had to leave her there, they are going to put her through some tests to solve this, so far they think its the cat, not sure which one, but one of them.

Cheers

I recently replaced both of mine within a months time.
Bank 1 drivers side, bank 2 passenger side.

Anybody know how these rigs would run without the cats in place?

Seems like the cats have problems!
My HD2500 has the same motor but no cat problems?

Geez I miss 1969 when your worse problem was a glass pack blew out.

if you remove both cats and buy a pair of sim's and screw them into the bung where the downstream O2's were you will have no mil a nice sound and more power . just don't expect to pass emission inspection. also some times if you put some Seafoam or injecter cleaner in the tank the cat gets clean and the mil go's out,not always but sometimes. ran my 2000 Z28 with a 382 stroker, long tubes and a hacked computer with sim's for 4 years and never saw a mil the whole time ,they will run just fine without cats . Summit used to sell simulaters . but shame on you for wanting to run catless and killing our ozone layer.

The service rep called and said the one of the Cats is bad, ordered and replaced tommorow sometime, under the 80,000 mile warranty.

Asked him about the Mirrors on the 2004 being loose and he said hed see what he could do via a managers approval for replacement upgrade even though Im ou of warranty. Well see.

Thanks for the replies

Too much mod work for taking the cats out 100% so Ill pass.

I found out it needs to be a CAN OBDII reader for 2003 hummers and newer
so the old ODBII readers dont work must be CAN

Problem fixed gas cap broken need new one, any cheap ones out there not from dealer? also OBDII will work does not need to be CAN OBDII my plug didnt work do to blown fuse the same one for the cig lighter so if any one comes across the same thing where the code reader wont work check cig lighter fuse first.
Cheers
