I had a 16" drop hitch made so I could tow my boat. Today I was backing it up and my trailer brakes locked up and the hitch buckled under the pressure. This is a warning to everone, make sure your hitch can handle the load!!

Hi,
I've had that same concern in trying to find the ""correct" way to bring the hitch into a usable range.

I've been thinking about a regular 8 or 10 in drop and using one of these to lower it the rest of the way.
Comments/thoughts welcome...
No affiliation with this company, just seemed like a damn good idea.

I dont think the one I had made will ever have that problem: http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28960&highlight=hitch

I had a 16" drop hitch made ...
What a horrible design!
Maybe one of these will work. http://www.hitchsolutions.com/rapidhitch.html

Looks like either one of these will work for you they offer drops all the way down to 18"

Nice Malibu man! I have a Supra.
Anyway that is alot of leverage at 16inches of drop. I have an 8 inch drop. I really think that trailer needs a lift kit and some mudders to make it HUMMER worthy! lol:clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

Let me see if I can find a site that I bought my drop from. Its very heavy duty. Its only an 8" but rock solid.
You might need to talk with an engineer since you are creating one heck of a load on that drop hitch and get one designed for the specific loading of your boat.
Wasnt it Archemedes that said....give me a long enough lever and I'll move the earth?
