GM looking at job cuts, sale of brands
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25566241/

General Motors Corp is planning to cut thousands of white-collar jobs and is considering whether it should sell or stop production of more of its brands......

GM has put its Hummer brand up for sale to prospective buyers thought to include Mahindra & Mahindra, but the SUV brand is expected to fetch far less than $1 billion in any sale.

Please quote that article. So far, NO OFFICIAL WORD has come out of GM, and I would be surprised if it has so soon considering Citibank just got the job of reviewing the brand a short while ago.

I don't care what the media outlets say, they always jump the gun to get a headline, doesn't mean it's fact... yet.

I imagine all the dealers that had to build those quonset hut showrooms in order to be considered official dealers will have something to say about this. Many of those showrooms still have their new building smell. While selling the brand is not dissolution, I still think the change of ownership could be seen as lessening the brand and be contested by the dealerships.

Just build the damn HX already!

If they do sell, I'm still routing for AM General to buy it back. They are flush with cash as they continue production of the Military Humvee. Although they state Cadillac and Chevrolet are safe as core brands, Corvette is also rumored to be on the GM chopping block.

GM are a bunch of bitches. Seriously gm why get rid of your two most known vechicals. Only thing i like about gm right now is whagt they are doing with cadalac, but im sure they will find a way to ruin that.

Does am general have a say in the sell of hummer to another company, after all isnt am just letting gm use the hummer name? And does Am build the h2's i have read that before.

Yes, AM General produces the H2 at its Mishawaka, Indiana plant that opened in 2002. I took the plant tour last year, and if you are a Hummer owner they give you the royal treatment on the tour! Gm acquired the Hummer brand in 1999 and an "option" for minority ownership of AMG.

There's also a link to the plant information and a good link about the Hummer Driving Academy there.
The H3 as we all know is made by GM in Shreveport. There is speculation that if they sell the brand name, the only Hummer affected would be the H3, HOWEVER, Hummer dealerships are part of the GM network and sell 2s and 3s and some like Lynch a lot of 1s. AM General could buy the rights to the H3 assembly and the brand back. What if Catepillar becomes a player?

I was thinking the exact same thing, Since Gm doesnt own h2 we may see them for years to come.

Would be impressive to see cat in hummers, although i think they are right about the price going up only on h2's i think that if they would put cats in the h1 it would be more purpose driven and not all fancy and overpriced like the alpha so it would end up being cheaper or equal in price.

Hummer Guy or H3Builder can set us straight on this, but it is my understanding GM bought the name and distribution rights from General and also provides engines, frames and subassemblies through their providers, such as American Axle but AM General does the assembly on the H2 in Indiana and provides limited components. I don't think AM General provides anything for the H3.
The big cost here is distribution, maintenance and parts and GM felt its dealership network would boost sales when they bought the brand, and initially they did. We all complain about "stealership" prices, but it costs a lot of money to maintain the infrastructure for a vehicle that is sold throughout the US and worldwide.
I believe we know nothing about the real Hummer goings on right now. I feel strongly it was a mistake to announce the brand up for sale publicly and thereby crippling dealers.

You've got it right -- AM General puts the H2 together w/ GM parts -- that's the extent of their current involvement with the HUMMER brand other than handling the warranty issues on H1s.

my lease expires in december-january. gm's already calling me trying to convince me to buy it OR extend my lease. i told them i'd consider extending for another year for $150-a-month less than the $490 and change (including state tx) i'm now paying. they said they'd knock $100 a month off. or knock off $7000 from the residual price if i bought it. i said NOT enough. and they said we'll get back to you. i though it was hysterical. gm clearly doesnt want any part of leased turn ins because THEY cant get rid of them, according to the GM agent who called me. by the time my lease expired in with the way the gas prices, the economy and gm in general are going i should be able to do even better. LOL, i love it. i'll just keep the hummer around for when i need it, and drive our way more fuel efficient cars regularly. hummer isnt a lifestyle for us, but just a cool-looking ride. with the $7000 iff, i'd be paying about $20k for the vehicle. its just a 2 year lease. i think $20 is too high. its worth $15k to me. i love having gm by the balls!!!!!!!!!!!!!:perfect10s: :perfect10s: :perfect10s: :perfect10s: :perfect10s:

The latest word according to FOX news is NO GM brand will be sold, they are just going to make major cuts in other areas.
