I am in the process of having my 6" lift kit installed and have hit a bit of a snag in my mechanics opinion. Once the 38X15.50 tires were mounted he noticed that the uper control arm is witin 1/2 an inch of the tire sidewall. He is talking about putting in a spacer which I hate. I am hoping for some fellow fabtech owners will check their own trucks for the clearance. I can fit my fingers between the tip of the upper control arm and the tire. If this is too close do you think there is enough material to grind down the control arm for clearance? Your opinions and experience are appreciated. My wheels are 20X10 with 0 offset. I do not know how that translates into backspacing but would assume it is 4.5 inches.
Thanks
Al

A picture of 38 inch tire clearance at the upper arm would help a ton as well so I can show it to my mechanic.
Thanks
Al
You have the wrong rims. I have 1 3/4" from control arm to tire lug with a 12" wide rim, and 4.5 backspacing, same size tires (ours are Toyo).
If you want a pic you'll have to wait a little bit as my camera batteries are dead.

Thats gonna hurt $$$ If I can grind for an inch of clearance I am hoping I will be ok. Pics would be great help. If nothing else make me feel better about the money spent for anouther set of wheels. Thanks

Phil I think I am going to try that. I wasnt going to take one inch off the control arm but figured I could at least take some of the flange away without affecting the strength of the arm. Thanks for giving me some hope I might squeek by. I was then going to mark the edge with some crayon and take the truck for a quick drive. I figured the crayon would show any contact. The wheels are DK-5 from DK wheels. I liked them on the truck before my lift and was hoping to retain them. Good advice from all though... http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

He's in Florida, atmospheric pressure is higher.
Nice paint Phil. Ever go off road with it? http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Same lift, rockstars & the same tires...no problems here. Identical clearance as KenP.
