View Full Version : bullet proof (realistically of course) front end

Here's the goal:

My H2 is being shipped to DR (Dominican Republic) It will serve as my main form of transportation and rig. The roads over there suck almost all the time.

They have strick rules when it comes to truck modifications and with the the way traffic is over there, a lift is suicidal unless you like running over 150cc honda's with three passengers plus driver!

However, I want to bullet proof the front end while adding 37's all around on 18's, maybe a 20". I got the tire and wheel package down... my area of concern is the IRS front end.

I ran across this thread and got some good info there....

But if you (anyone) were going to do it right the FIRST TIME, no budget, what kind of modifications should I require? Brief info, at times, I will be in areas that are very secluded and i break a something, I'm in a whole lot of trouble due to the lack of commuters, tow trucks, servicing stations, etc.

I plan on having an extra set of stuff in the truck as well as some other must gear.

So, what is guys?

-Cognito Uniball Upper control arms
-Cognito Pitman/Idler support kit
-Cognito Idler Pivot Kit
-Cognito OEM length sway bar end links
-Rancho or Fabtech steering satbilizer
-Cognito or Fabtech Tie rods
-Borgeson steering shaft
-Bilstein (from Cognito) extended length front shocks

If you want to also do the rear to gain 2" more travel/flex to match the front:
-Samco rear coils (2.5" more free length but adds 1" more height overall)
-Bilstein 2" longer rear shocks F4-BE5-6249-H
-Edelbrock Panhard Bar
-True Tech billet trailing arms
-Airlift Coil spring air bags

Thanks buddy.... Won't having more suspension travel require a lift or more massaging to avoid bottoming out without a lift?

Most people think "travel" is when the wheels move upward, but it actually is when the wheel can droop downward. If you look at the geometry of the front suspension and how it rest on the bump stops - it will make sense.

So for the front as an example - the Cognito Upper Control arms are constructed so they can droop more than the OEM UCAs. This is why you need the longer shocks

Will it then in turn throw the geometry of the front IRS out of factory spec or are the cognito arms adjusted for just that?
