Has anyone ever done a conversion where u get to switch from 2wd to 4wd

I don't think there is any way of adding the ability to change between 2wd and 4wd on the H2 without changing the entire transfer case. However, I did run my h2 for three or four days without the front drive shaft connected. It was just after I installed the 4l80e conversion and my front drive shaft was being cut for proper fit. Anyway, I HATED the way my truck felt without 4wd. Even though the engine ran fine and the tranny shifted properly it still felt very sluggish. Also, FYI it was no faster in 2wd than 4wd. :D

If you do the Durmax/ Allison conversion, you can do this. You get 2wd to 4wd.

In other words you need a new transmission, t case, and bunch of other BS...just to switch out fo 2WD. Seems like a waste to me.

Yeah dump idea to switch out, i cant stand driving 2wd trucks since im so use to driving in 4wd all the time. Dont have to worry about fishtailing or tire spinning.

There's a few people I've heard of that installed the transfer case, harnesses and such to have the ability to transfer from 2wd to 4wd.

I never did hear about if it affected their gas mileage or not... I can only assume it helped.

And as far as actually turning the H2 into a 2wd without any 4wd ability, that would definitely be a waste IMO.

I bought my wife a new Jeep JK and purposely bought a 2wd for her. a) figured she ain't going off-road anyways and b) just how many parking lot stops could she drive over?

Point is, it sucks. If I knew it was like this, I would have bought her the 4wd.

After having full time 4WD for while I would prefer to have a manual t-case that I could switch to 2WD when I wanted to and have manual control over low range rather than an electric solenoid.

Sometimes it is nice to be able to break the rear tires loose :)

Your right. I have a Jeep Cherokee. The fulltime 4WD was only available on the older Cherokees with the automatic tranny and it was called the Quadra Track system. A separate handle on the center console allows manual selection of 2 wheel Hi, 4 wheel fulltime (can be used on hard pavement0, 4 wheel part time (for off road), and 4 wheel low range.

Well, if that's the case:

Put a Magnacharger on there, and you can smoke all four tires!!!!:clapping:
It would be way cheaper than swapping out Tcases and such.

Basic idea as to how to do it the least expensive way is to buy a manual tranny, transfer case, and some alterations of other parts. Buy something out of same year 3/4 ton GM truck. Your 2 to 4 shifter will come up tight next to middle console but, causes no gas pedal problems. There is room on left to install a clutch pedal bracket etc. The tranny shifter will fit right in the space where the auto shifter was.

I'm assuming it could be done with auto tranny but, if I were going to do it I would only do it to get manual tranny and look at a 6 speed with short throw shifter.

Once others showing SUV's catch up to the wild stuff Dragon and I have done it is my plan to go this route to set us out front again. You get lot's of points for true custom and especially one of type stuff. We keep small goals lined up out in the future to try and be different as well as ahead. So for shows would be the main reason I would look at but, if you could get a 6 spd tranny in 2wd it would improve mpg allot.
