In between coats of GRIOTS (thanks huummin'/boatin') on my front plastic pieces I've been reading about the DRL and turning them into fog lamp only

I know I don't want HID.

I want something that will light my way through the rare fog that I encounter... and also the heavy rain and snow.

Do I need new bulb housings?? OR can you recommend just a bulb.

Ideally, from what I've read on searches, I would like to just pop a bulb in... but I have yet to read about the perfect bulb...maybe there isn't one??

I've read about the PIAA, I believe 510, which is a lens/bulb/harness/switch setup.

I can re-read to figure out how to wire the DRL to a switch... but I really want optimum FOG light performance.

NO HID, NO this, NO that,... just a nice fog light with a switch, If I need a lens so be it...

Hoping I can do this without an aftermarket lens, simply using the stock lens.

Hi i don't think you will find a replacement 3157 bulb that will do what you want. I think the only thing for to do is replace the bulb and lense with a real 4 to 4 1/2 inch fog light and wire a switch in where you want it. I have 27 smd leds right now in my DRL which has 3 leds per smd chip so it has 81 leds in their and its not like a real fog light. I am thinking of doing the same thing but, i must keep some kind of DRL because is a law in ont. canada to have them.

Well.... confirmation sometimes sucks! I have, from reading, come to the same conclusion.

The above link is a good fit and I think DRTYFUN has the same. It looks good... no doubts..... just trying to find a cheaper way out...

I'd like to have a light bar like i posted in another thread..... but I really don't need it a side from looks.

My bumper is off right now, for the sole purpose of removing front tow hooks for powder coating and, I figure now is the best time to modify the bumper cover to accept what you are suggesting and what I've read (same thing)...

Hmmmmmm.......BEER POWER WHERE ARE YOU??? :jump:

At least I've got :drama:

PS... no DRL LAWS HERE IN PORTLAND OR.

hi i have been thinking of these because of DRL and few mods to the bracket and they will fit right in and look stock. Wish i had beer and popcorn to. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270498618589&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT

:jump: KEGERATOR ...... I'M just lucky tonight that I have popcorn...:D

On the link... be careful with the "halo rings". I've never found one yet that looks good and if it does I've found they don't last long and soon look like sh*t.

JM Experience....

I'm leaning towards what drtyfun did with the PIAAs.... but was looking for a cheaper way out since I really don't use fogs that much.....

Still HMMMMMMM>....

hi i already know about chit holo rings they are junk, i was not going to use them just put them in the garbage. I was going to use the just the fog lights they have replaceable h3 bulbs.

Cool... I tried 3 different "halo" headlight setups on my custom VW JETTA... the 3rd worked the best but still looked like sh*t compared to the "real deal" BMW.... now Audi has a nice looking ring also...

Anyways....

I dont know why you don't want HID. They make HID fog lights. Thats what mine are. HID just means more light power, and it actually uses less power, so that leaves more power for your engine and accessories. I would never go back to non HID lights for any car application, unless they are high powered LEDs (not cheap LEDs, not 50+ LEDs that means cheap, expensive LEDs would be 1 or 2 very high powered LEDs).

Main reason is cost...

Hi pteam, do your hids sit where the stock DRL are? do they stick out pasted the bumper? The only ones i have found are to long and i don't want to mount ballasts. I want everything inside the housing.

They fit great inside the DRL hole. Take the DRL housing completely out. They stick out a little, and well worth it. Theyre only $200 on ebay.
