I know this thread has been beaten to death I did the search, to no avail. I live in the city and I can't get my RT mirror to fold in. Can I fold it in manually until I take to the dealer ship. Street parking makes this a must.

<UL TYPE=SQUARE>Manually folding the mirror may cause the mirror and the motor to become out of sync.
The power mirror drive has detents in the drive hub that lock the mirror to the drive system. This system is designed to let the drive hub disconnect without damage through manual input to the mirror. This mechanism allows the mirrors to be folded by power but still have the break-a-way feature if contacted accidentally.
Correction
There are no replacement parts necessary to correct this condition. The mirrors will self-synchronize by following the procedure below. Once synchronized, the mirrors will function properly unless folded manually.
Important
Prior to replacing a mirror, attempt to electrically fold and unfold the mirrors a minimum of 3 cycles.
Set the power mirror selector switch to the center position. You will see the mirror directional control switch illuminate the power folding symbol.
Press the right or left side of the directional control to fold or unfold the mirrors.
Cycle the mirrors open and closed 3 times. The mirrors should now operate normally. [/list]

Wasnt there a service note or recall on the loose mirror issue?
Seth, yes it worked for me several times. But not this time. Oddly, the last person to fold one of my mirrors manually was the detail guy at the dealership. I need to take it in. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

The dealership said that a nylon gear drives the mirror and the teeth sometimes break off??? Completely repairable though he assured me.

My Right mirror failed to fold 2 weeks ago. Went thru all the reset stuff to no avail. Parts are on order to replace both mirrors. ('04 H2)

Ours was just replaced last week after failing three different times. The dealership here recycled it as above each time claiming to fix it. By the time I got it home it would not fold in.
Replaced the whole mirror. It works for now- we'll see.

My right failed and no amount of reset/recycle would do, dealer replaced entire assembly. I'm sure it's correct about the nylon gear and I'm sure they can be rebuilt, but dealers only do replacement. Wonder if these failed units would get rebuilt elsewhere though.
