View Full Version : Roof Marker lights - anyone have em?

I was recently told (by a dealer) that they are not being sold as they are noisy and GM is working on updating them somehow to resolve the issue... I am going to buy an H3 in the next few weeks, but really want them... I see that they are sold independently online anyway... anyone have them and if so, have you noticed extra wind noise?

Yes I have them and they rattle very loudly on expressway. Patiently awaiting a fix from GM. There are several posts on this site with more specifics.

Went to have them put on mine and the service manager told me they are loud and leak even when siliconed. He recommended waiting

Thanks everyone for your replies - glad to hear that it is being worked on... - or even better that crop000s was able to have them put on without any trouble... I have to admit, I think it makes the H3 look more like it's predecessors with the roof marker lights than without. That's why I am going to get them. crop000s, sounds like we'll be driving similar vehicles soon... I dig the green too...

My buddy got the marker lights installed at an aftermarket shop. No noise at all! Great add-on item and adds to the truck as well. I maybe wrong but I recall the shop got the marker lights through the dealer, so not sure why the dealers are having problems with the noise and the aftermarket locations are not(same product being installed)?? Makes you wonder....

Killian, I thought you sold your H3 http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif
Wasn't it listed for sale in June?

Couple of H3s? I wish. I'm just a poor locksmith, I don't have enough cash for a couple of 'em.
Here's the deal: I ordered a blue one way back when the dealerships were first taking orders for H3s. My dealer was charging 2500 over invoice and they told me there was no blue available so I flew to Dallas and picked up this black one to hold me over until the blue came out. I listed my black one on Ebay a while ago and I got some juicy offers but I couldn't bring myself to part with the black, it just sort of grew on me. Now don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to have a nice blue one, but as they say, once you go black....

killian, are those red lights on roof at the rear that I see? If so where are they from?
killian
09-07-2005, 03:11 AM
They're my rear marker lights. They're factory H2 stock that I wired in to the tail lights, they come on with the front markers. They sort of look ok in the photo but they're too big. I got some other one that look perfect but I've been in England so I've not had time to switch them out. Maybe in the next month or two when I have time.

I just picked up my H3 last Friday and my salesperson told me they couldnt install the marker lights because they were "quarantined" from GM because they leak.

I had not heard about a leak. As far as I know, the quarantine is due to wind noise. Some have had great luck with them while others get unbearable noise on the highway.

My H3 is so naked...I need to start adding stuff to it. First things first...black step rails are a must.
Let me know if you hear anything about the lamps. Thanks!

I will let you know if I hear anything. No side steps right now? Do you want them for looks or function? I am trying to decide if I want them or not. I don't use them to get in and out but like the look. The problem with having them is that I know my leg touches when getting in and out and I would always be getting dirt on my pants. Just my observation. Anyone else have any thoughts on them?

I do like how they look but...well...not to sound to girly, but it's hell trying to get in with a skirt on!
I was having a hard time deciding between the chrome or the black...but I think the black...I like the black with the yellow.

I hadn't tried that yet http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
I would go with the black since your H3 is yellow. I agree, the color combo would look great. One of the first cars I had was a '70 Olds 442 convertible that was yellow and black. First saw the ad in the paper and thought now way. Feel in love with it as soon as I saw it. I might have gone with yellow on the H3 but a good friend of mine has a yellow H2 so had to go with the slate blue.

I orignally wanted either Black or Red...but like you, fell in love with the yellow.
Are you in to older cars still?
HummerNewbie
09-07-2005, 12:46 PM
I would love to have a muscle car again. One of the best cars I ever had was that 442. I also had a '70 Cutlass Supreme convertible at the time that was my daily driver and the 442 only came out on nice days. Every once in a while I will go search around for a 442 but damn they have gotten expensive. There are a lot of fake 442s out there (regular Cutlass with the 442 emblems and ram air hood) and anymore, I wouldn't mind because I just love the look of them.

In the last couple of years I have gotten into the older cars. (i love the show Overhaulin..anyways..) One day I will be the proud owner of a black '67 GTO. It will look good sitting in the garage by the H3.

That would look great next to the H3. Friend of mine had a black GTO back in high school. I believe his was a '68. Another friend just got rid of his '69 Skylark that he had totally redone and built the engine. Fun car to ride around town in. Don't think I have ever seen the show Overhaulin, what channel?

Pimp my ride with real cars, LOL, thats cool. They don't do all the pimped out stuff do they.
Laura, they mess up your pants all the time? I figured that would be the case. I am 6'2" and they are more of a hassle to use than not to. Now on the H2 I always use them but not the H3.

Im so used to getting in a big truck with 36's that ive just learned to hop in but when im getting out theres not much of a drop so just a smidge touches the back just enough for a little dirt. As i sit here and say dirt im laughing at my self cause my H3 has had more baths than any other truck ive owned in its 3 wounderful weeks. You no the one thing i miss is having a tail gate to sit on...

Yeah, I'm in Phoenix. My H3 was the first in the state, although some would argue with me, not that it really matters.
So if you can spot Phoenix in the photograph you must know where this is...

Possibly broken arrow or soldiers pass?
Good to see others from the Valley of the Sun...
We all should get together for a trail run.

Just a hair south of Boynton Canyon by the Enchantment resort in Sedona. We spent the weekend at the resort and drove some of the same trails that the Jeep Tours use. Serious Fun!

we were up at the cendars this week end and i sure would like to take the h3 there, we had our quads but the whole time i was seeing jeeps and keeped thinking im going to have to come back whith the h3...we were up there in my husbands truck and 5th wheel ...what a cool area
I have been seriously debating the roof marker lights on my H3. I think I'll jump in and grab the brush guard first and then see what's going on with the lights.
I have the tubular side steps and haven't noticed the dirty pant legs yet. I guess I just keep it too clean! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
I'm 6'1 and while I use them on occasion, I usually just reach around them and touch the ground. I will say this, there's no way in hell you're ever going to hand wash the top of the H3 unless you have the steps, or a step ladder. I climb all over it when hand washing it, and I barely get it done.

Sorry the fix worked picked it up today, long story was short shipped the gas cap, got it a week late and was in germany for the frankfurt autoshow last weekend. By the way the base h3 starts at 54K Euro in Germany and gas is about twice as much. Anyway the gas cap looks great and no more rattle, the dealer put thicker insulation under the lights as directed by GM.

Wow... thats more than double what the base model is in the U.S. which is around $29k. If you convert it ($1.2 to 1 euro) it is $64,800 for the base model. I wonder what the Luxury pakage runs.

I was considering to add marker lights. But there was too much confusion. I went to the dealer and looked at the ones they instaalled (they said they were the new version) they did not fit perfectly and tere was black foam in there. Then I saw 1 with the off road lghts (NICE) perfect fit. I ordered them from lynch. Gonna try to install them myself. I send pics and let y'all how it went.
