I want to add a power programmer to my '06' H2! Which one should I get and why?
Please and thank you, eddie

Superchips Cortex...why? I know it works and is pretty easy to use. Granted, I haven't used any other programmer...
...you're in the right forum for good advice though. I'm sure others will chime in who have more experience with these units than me.

Thanx! I figured I would ask the question in the "technical and performance" side of the forum, thinking maybe I'll get more info. Thanx. Do you use 93 octane? The only reason I ask is my mechanic which is a hummer mech said to only use 87 octane. I don't know why, maybe because stock tune? I know the programmer changes all that and will ask if you want to use regular or premium. Your thoughts? What do you think or know about hypertech?
Thanx, Eddie

i have been using a hypertech on my 06 since new on 87 octane and it takes away the response lag, it gives the pep it needed.
i have ran it on the 93 octane tune and it gives it more power with no side affects. since i do live in ca and there is only 91 octane here & i have to add a can of lucas octane booster to the tank to up my octane to 93 if not you will get pinging at wide up throttle. lucas octane booster is the only one that i have used the works but it is around $10 a bottle.

I live in Vegas so I have the same with 91 octane! Is that a $10 octane boost every time on a fill up? Do you notice a big change between the 87 to the 93 tune? Which do you prefer?
Thanx

you can feel the difference 87 vs 93, and yes 1 bottle of octane booster with every fill up for the 93 tune. i just run the 87 and i am fine with it, it has the pep you need to move on those inclined freeway on ramps and for passing cars now.

Ok, so I installed the hypertech with the 87 octane tune! It seems like I have more of a ping noise at idle and driving between 5-15mph but it seems to go away at the higher mph after that! Unless I can't hear it? Is this normal? What kind of mileage gain did you get? Other than the minor ping things did improve!
Thanx

first of all i have no pinging at all at idle or full throttle.
i stay away from cheap gas like am/pm & 7/11 gas.
i have seen that cheap gas does not meet the full 87 octane rating and will cause the car to ping.
i only run gas from 76, shell, & mobil and have no problems.
i average 12.7-13.2mpgs by dividing the miles by gallons filled up.
i always fill up to the top of the neck.

I only run chevron or shell. Maybe it's the normal tap sound at idle and I'm just getting paranoid! Don't you have a normal tap noise at idle?

Okay question since you guys know about all this and I dont.... 03 H2 with 40" tires.... no gears and no CAI.... What would you guys recommend for a programmer?
I will be adding a CAI hopefully soon and MAYBE I will do gears after the programmer... but I hate the way it jumps around searching for a lower gear all the time and its pretty laggy....
Any suggestions? Much appreciated.:beerchug:

i hear zero noise at idle.
40" tires needs gears at least 4.88
just make sure that your programmer can adjust for your new gear size.
my hypertech can only handle up to 4.56. i was think of adding gears at 4.88 so i would need to buy a different programmer.

Doing some research, I found that superchips gives you a 91 tune or an 87 tune! Superchips says the 91 tune gives a 34 horse gain and the 87 is 24 horses! Being in las vegas, I like that they offer the 91 octane tune!
A gear change is a must when you lift and change tire size! When I lifted my avelanche, I didn't do a gear change right away. I just put the power programmer on and really didn't get much out! But when I did the gear change, it was a world of difference!

DO THE GEARS. Programmers won't help enough as they usually don't program past a 38 inch tire. Changing to 4.88's was one of the best mods I did for my truck.

I'm thinking of doing the same with mine, not liking the constant searching for a lower gear..I have an '08 with 35's, exhaust, and a CAI..any suggestions on brand and why?
Much appreciated!

Just to update this a bit. I did a programmer first, and it didn't do much for the up-sized tires. New gears made it a whole new truck. I feel that the programmer is a nice compliment to the gears.

I just put the Evolution CTS Gas from Edge Products in My H2 currently running it in the economy mode and it lets me change the tire size reset error codes. so far Im happy with it, do notice the shifting is much better in the Hummer after installing it and pick up is great. I drive on the auto bahns of Germany, so I needed something to help with faster shifting and this seems to be working.

Do any of the for mentioned programmers make the mileage worst than it already is? I am getting almost 14/16 mpg in my 07 and am pretty thankful for that. :D

Im begining to think that is pretty awesome too, its only two mpg less than what my silverado was getting. I read a thread on hypermiling, so thats what ive been doing. Its not alot of fun driving like an old lady but the mileage really shows a difference when you do. I was late getting somewhere today so drove it pretty hard and ended up with a 13.2mpg . Still not too bad compared to some of the postings Ive seen on here.

OK, here is a question that maybe someone will have an answer for... I have 4.88's for the gears and I have a superchips Cortex which does run up to 4.88 on the gear size. Only problem I am having now is I went up to 40's on the tire size a week or so ago and my cortex only goes up to 38's. Looked into Hypertech and they go up to 44's on tires, but don't support 4.88 gears. Anyone know of a chip that would work for my situation?
Cortex is making it work for now, but I am pretty sure my speedo is off...
