View Full Version : saggy butt :(

After years of taunting me with the SERVICE AIR SUSPENSION warning, she finally crapped out.

What's weird is, shouldn't the rear end be ALL the way down if the bags went? It's low but still driveable (nice & bumpy tho..)

Springs are on their way from gmpartsdirect...hope she lasts until they get here!

Mines done that. Someone ran into the back of me and somehow my exhaust moved and burnt a hole in the airbag from rubbing up against it. I was towing my jetski and the whole back just dropped on my tires which was pretty embarrassing. Got a tow truck and a whole new airbag and it's been good ever since. Sorry to hear that happen though

There are bump stops on the frame which contact the axle to prevent the tire from complete bottoming out. The Air bags are fairly cheap to replace and there are some write-ups and even a Video on Youtube which go through the steps. It is pretty simple, especially if the original springs already have decompressed. Good luck with it. Cheers, Indy.

Dumb question: are the rear coils & spacers all I need to order to replace the air suspension?
My mechanic told me I need a $325 "conversion kit" which replaces the shocks as well. I hope that's not the case because I already ordered the coils & spacers from GMparts direct! (got the part #s from the forum)
Thanks all.

I guess that's one way to 'level' the truck out...lol.

Anyone have any input? I'm in the middle of moving & it would be disastrous if my truck crapped out on me!

Sounds like you got it covered, I left the original shocks in when I did mine and they are still "doing their thing" :clapping:

Springs will be marked which side the go on and which side is up since you ordered OEM, there is a post somewhere on here how to tell the difference if they are not marked, just a fyi.

You may have the "service suspension" light come on and there are also some post on that but it won't prevent you from moving so if you cannot get it to go out after the swap, move first then work on getting the light to go out.

Best of luck, Ed

P.S. Welcome to the club :jump:

GMParts Direct states that they will ship to a PO Box if...

QUOTING:

"...your address is a PO BOX we can ship your order, unless the order is over sized or overweight, please contact customer service before placing an order to insure your order can be shipped to a PO BOX if you are unsure. This mainly applies to parts over 70lbs. or that has a length and width total over 9 ft."

Do the two springs and retainers weigh more than 70#

From what I remember, no, they do not weigh 70 lbs, maybe 40 lbs if that.

"please contact customer service before placing an order to insure your order can be shipped to a PO BOX if you are unsure" might be your best bet.

Good luck, Ed

Howdy,
Just bought a 2003 H2 with 50K and the infamous "service air suspension". Got the dealer to knock off $1,500 of his internet price because of it. Got on this here Forum and learned me how to do a coil conversion. Cost about $230 from Amazon. Looks fine, rides fine, no inevitable problem down the road, and with the heigth being correct I've got no warning and I can still the on board compressor.
Thanks for all the postings, I apprecciate it.
