New guy here. I've been reading alot of posts about how bad K&N cold air intakes are on the engine. I had to try for myself. A couple hundred miles after install, I got the famous check engine light. So i took my OBD 2 downloader out of my cherokee. (comes on alot on the jeep) and hooked it up. Said engine lean. Must have went outside the paramiters of the computer.
Just wondering if anyone else has/had this problem?

i have the airaid system (just a filter and new airbox lid). i installed it about 12 hours after we drove the thing home from the dealer. it now has about 500 miles on it and nothing to date. i am looking at getting a air intake tube to go from the box to the throttle body. i don't know if that has anymore effect on it. are the two tubes that go to the intake tube connected?

Yup, Everything is connected properly. It's one tube and the air sensor. All the airflow is unrestriced with the kit. I think its just too much air.
I know there is a old thread that talked about this, but I can't find it. It talks about the intake system puting too much air in and throws the computer out of wack. If anyone can tell me the date of the thread or more info on it I would be thankful.

Hoogie43mi,
There are a few things to try based on how you answer these.
What are your average Ltrims and Strims during ~1/2 - 3/4 throttle cruise?
Did you change the exhaust?
Any other engine modifications?

No other modifications have been done. As far as the Ltrim and Strim, I'm pretty clueless. I do know that all my driving is uder 4000 rpm (auto trans) I have not been heavy on the gas.

had same problem hoogie...went thru hell and back with this problem. I posted a bunch of threads about 4 or 5 months ago when i was going thru the problem. basically, the K&N kit was returned; they reimbursed even though i didn't buy it directly from K&N. I had the dealership run the code and they too said the truck is runing too lean. the mass air flow sensor was triggering it. I found no fix for this after numerous calls to KN and few threads on here, and asking knowledge mechanics. The only thing that may work is if a computer chip is available to change the trucks air flow value to except the increased air flow. Good Luck

Never had it yet - have had the K&N for about 4 months.
