View Full Version : "ICE" warning on rear-view temp display?

I just had an odd thing happen on my way to work. This morning we had our 1st really cold night in Wyoming. When I stared the H3 this morning my temp readout on the rear-view mirror started to flash "ICE" and then the temp (around 30 degrees or so). After 15 seconds or so, it stopped.

Has anyone seen this before? I don't recall reading about it in the owner's manual and I haven't noticed before. Is this intended to be a warning that there may be ice outside or is something else?

The same thing freaked me out the first time I saw it on a Exploder I used to have. My understanding it that it will flash ICE for a short time whenever the temp gets cold enough. This is to let you know that bridges could be iced over.

I believe that most GM products that have the themometer will say that. Mine has said it above freezing before.

Most cars with temperature indicators have some form of ice warning. My Audi shows a cute lil' snowflake. Its supposed to be a warning for transitional freezing conditions; when ice can form on the road while the air is still a few degrees above freezing. Doesn't get a lot of exercise here in SoCA.

NO WORRIES! That's a good sign. That means that skiing is around the corner. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
