Line-X Side steps

Anyone try Line-X on their side steps? If so how did it work? If not what else is there to do when the black doesn't look good anymore.

I've been thinking about doing it. That and all the plastic trim.

I got a close look at Hummbebe's rig and it really looks nice. Especially compared to the faded plastic of my 03.

Line-X can be treated when it fades....go with the Line-X.

No, if yours are chrome, they will use 50 grit on the first to "rough" them up. Line-X guarantees their finish, so if it does come off, they will re-do it for free.

I have Chrome ones now but I just bought a pair of black ones that are showing some "age".

A few weeks ago there was a guy on EBAY selling the removable side steps he had covered with Line-X. No takers. I was curious whether this would come off with the foot traffic on the steps. Seemed like a good enough idea. I may try it.

My steps were so slippery when getting in and out so I was going to throw them out; but Line-x is worth a try. Silica sand or walnut shells and black epoxy might work too.

SInce Line-X is a spray on bed liner I seriously doubt foot traffic would have any effect on it for a very long time.

I'm sure scraping the bottoms over rocks will remove the line X but the same can be said for anything.

Are you talking about the tube steps, or the removeable steps?

The tubes would be sanded, a bonding agent applied, then the Line-X. With the bonding agent you get a Lifetime Warranty... maybe.

If you're talking about the removeable steps, then you're looking at more money. Since they're aluminum, the steps have to be sand blasted free of the PC, the bonding agent applied, then the Line-X.

I have the removeable steps and looked into coating them, but changed my mind after hearing the process. Rattle can will work just fine and it's easy to touch-up.

If you have the tubes, you can also sand them and use the rattle can method.

I have the AMP RESEARCH power steps, and the powder coating was flaking off, so I took my truck to the local LINE-X shop and had them LINE-X my power steps. That was over a year ago, and they still look like they were just done http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I was talking about the removable U-steps. There was a set on EBAY that claimed to be "professionally done" by a Line-X franchise. The auction started at $200 with a Buy-It-Now of $450 or so (if I recall correctly). Like I said, it never got anywhere, so nobody won the auction. He might have even pulled it. Anyway, I was thinking it sounded like a good idea, but I haven't looked into the details. Sounds like you're saying it would be too pricey.

I was talking about tubed. I've been looking around all day for a Line-X place is Ohio area that isn't too far and I'm not having any luck.

mstams: It's not too expensive if they'll do it without you having to have them sandblasted clean. I had the front grill done for only $135.

Ken thanks I found a place on there 30 minutes from my house. I'm going to call tomorrow and see how much they'll do the steps for.

I sprayed my U-steps with Duplicolor Bed Liner spray and they're holding up great. Better traction too.

Hell bought my u steps off ebay for $120.00 4 cans of duplicolor truck and bedliner $ 30.00 and they look great and have held up well after a Chicago Winter. $450.00 = butt rape!

If it's slippery, just put a couple strips of skateboard grip tape, and problem solved! About $2's worth of tape and a few minutes to pre-clean, will save you many busted shins!
