thanks to kodiakz for the dash kit...

anyways, was wondering if anyone who has installed the d1 or similar if you can help me out.

first, where do I hook up the brake sensor/cable coming from the deck? I think the unit still works but i get a message saying that I havent plugged that wire in properly. I would like to hook it up so that I dont get that annoying message.

second, i think i got the speed signal correct, but i can test that for sure when i acutally use the NAV. Is there anything in particular to look for if the speed signal isnt working? Like will the nav work. I notice when going to NAV mode that I couldnt set a destination.

thanks!

damit...

Ijustfound out that my on-star and phone isnt working. I have the on-star module (GMAH24)and I triple checked the wires to make sure they were plugged correctly.

Any ideas? Does anyone have a pic of their module wired so that I can compare my wiring?

Mark, vss (speed sense) should be dk grn w/ white at cluser or pcm blue plug #21. Parking brake is lt blue at switch or bcm black plug #A31. GMAH is pretty much plug and play as far as onstar is concerned--it should keep onstar intact without any wiring mods. did you connect the 2 purple wires together at 24 pin plug? When you say you can't select a destination, that may well be because the unit is not seeing the correct parking brake signal and won't let you select many items until it is properly connected.

your a life saver Kodiakz, I'll try the two purple wires and then tapping the rest as you mentioned.

I'll keep you posted on the results

MarK M

connected the two purple wires and now on-star works! THANK YOU!!!

dont mean to sound stupid but when you say cluster you mean behinde the radio plugs right? also, where would one find the pcm plug... behind the radio as well? same with bcm?

those are the only two wires left and i'm done!

thanks,

just did a search and found what pcm is and where its located. Before i route the speed sensor through the firewall and into the pcm can it be tapped inside the car?

as well as the brake sensor?

Kodiakz - when you say the parking brake is lt. blue at the switch, which switch are you referring to?

MarK M

ok, i figured i'd show some pics to verify this pcm and/or bcm plugs.

which plug is the pcm and which is the bcm. Im still having difficulties finding the speed sensor and brake sensor.

BCM (Body Control Module) is located in the PASSENGER KICK PANEL.

As for speed signal, it's dk grn w/ white of smaller audio connector.

BB is correct, but may I add a caution.
The black connector to the radio, contains two dark green/white wires, so make sure to look carefully at the photo supplied by BB and connect to the correct wire on terminal E. The other wire is the class 2 serial buss wire.

The photo you displayed, is of the underhood junction (fuse) block and the connectors circled are primarily ignition supply voltages, ground or crank voltage.

Got the passenger kick panel thank you! I'll route that way and let you know.

as for the speed signal. My black radio plug only has two wires from it... pink and orange w/black stripe.

My radio is the basic non bose does that make any difference?

its actually fairly easy, its just you need to know where these wires are located. But its good that Kodiakz is doing yours, you'll get it done in no time!

Mark M, my H3 has Monsoon Sound System, so there may be a difference in wiring between Basic and Monsoon ???

Ok, so for the non monsoon radios the black plug that everyone suggested to tap into with the green wire turns out to be for the base radios is the same plug however its the pink wire w/ black stripe. Its on the same location as the green wire if I had the monsoon radio.

as for the parking brake, I was attempting to reroute the wire to the passenger side so i can tap into the kick panel and in doing so, I was under the steering column moving the brake sensor wire from the radio and low and behold i saw a lt. blue wire where the parking brake foot pedal is. I was like WTH, so I tapped in that and woohoo it worked! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

btw, i didnt know that the D1 cannot play DVDs unless you have an external dvd player... that was a dissapointment. however, i didnt get the system for watching dvds; i got it for the rear cam

I have the headrest screens for the DVD, which is ok. nonetheless was still kinda bummed!

Good point! I'm gonna check it out this weekend. I'm sure all i would need is an adaptor of some sort or a spliter.

I have heard, what you need to do is find the box behind the radio with the yellow connector, and whack it with a hammer!

OMG, Just kidding! don't get near that thing!

BTW: I got one of those "Carchip" things. I got stopped for 30 min, by a train, on my way to work. I got a "letter of warning" for attendance. So, I printed out the chart that showed it all. They tore up the LOW. They were amazed I could do that... http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

It even showed that I could not go faster than 98MPH!

Looks nice, my H3 will be here on tuesday and I have an N2 to install. This topic will make it much easier. Is the stereo adapter, I'd need one to make a 1 din slot, and wiring harness adapter difficult to find for the H3? I did a quick search and didn't see anything.

MarK M
01-14-2006, 04:25 AM
you can pretty much get everything at your local car stereo place except for the double din dash kit.

The only person i know that sells the H3 double din dash kit is kodiakz. Shoot him a PM if you need to get a dash kit.

AVIC-D1 question... for all those that installed the D1, I've been messin' around with the vehicle dynamics feature. Where it shows your the digital speedo, and the two small gauges flanking it.

my question is i got all gauges to work except "SLOPE" it says this function isnt working. Did I not attach a wire? How can I make this work?

thanks,

MarK M

bump, for the "slope" question on my D1

deicustoms1
01-16-2006, 03:27 AM
My N2 also doesn't let me select slope as a gauge, I checked the installation manual to find out why awhile ago and it said the vss wasn't connected. But I went into the hardware info while driving and checked on the speed pulse and it was definately working.

If no one knows, I'll try to find out the problem when I install mine in the h3, and let you know.

I found this using the search.

http://elcova.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/2706067735/m/4...761018731#8761018731 (http://elcova.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/2706067735/m/4081017731/r/8761018731#8761018731)

my question is... I looked into that gray 64pin plug and see that there is three yellow wires.

two yellow wires and one yellow w/ black stripe.

can you help out f5fstop. Or h3'er can you tell me which yellow wire you used?

My purpose in all of this is to get the "slope" in vehicle dynamics to work. It's weird, everything seems to work except for that option. I mean, i can a speed pulse and everything. BTW, for your signal does yours say simple hybrid? I'm thinking it has to read something else to read the speed signal correct.

Hey Mark, I'm about to install my n2 now. I was just wondering if you figured out that slope thing, and if you changed the speed sense from the pink/black wire in the small radio connector to somewhere else.

Also, did you get the lt. green reverse wire in the drivers kick, on the harness to the rear or did you get it elsewhere?

And, I think the d1 has a brain, where did you end up mounting that? anything else I should know before installing it? thanks

MarK M
02-01-2006, 09:46 PM
Hey Deicustoms,

I actually spent a good amount of time and couldnt figure out the slope feature to work. I got fed up and just reverted back to the pink/black wire. Everything works great except for the slope feature. I'm sure one day i'll figure it out.

as for the reverse... i tapped to a brown wire on the drivers side A-pillar. much easier to access. the wire comes from the Mirror which un-dims the rear view mirror when reverse is selected. this triggers the signal for the rear cam to go on.

I'm not sure what you're talking about when you say brain. the D1 is one huge unit that goes where the stock radio went. I didnt mount anything other then the on-star module which I just tucked away in the BIG whole on the center console.. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I hope this helps you out when installing your unit. Shot me a PM if you have trouble with any wires other then the slop... as I still havent figured this out myself. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

cheers,

02-01-2006, 10:19 PM
Alright, thanks for the info. And I guess the D1 doesn't have a seperate brain. The N2 has a unit seperate from the headunit, that mounts somewhere like under a seat, and you hook up connections like antennas, and video to that. So nevermind that question then.

02-02-2006, 06:22 PM
Ok...mostly got the n2 installed. I tapped the pink/black wire in the small radio connector, and for some reason I don't get a speed pulse.

I didn't want to pull the drivers a-pillar off cause there is an airbag in there, but I looked under the dash, got the harness that goes up to thru the a-pillar, I only saw a light brown wire, tapped that (what a pain...) and my n2 didn't see the car as in reverse.

But my slope works now..somehow http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

hmm...

MarK M
02-02-2006, 09:23 PM
I noticed that it took a while for the speed sensor to finally read. But it read.

there was a discussion on here (if you search) about the a-pillar. It's brown when its on the a-pillar side and as it goes down I beleive it changes/splits to ta green wire. If you have a tester, find a green wire along that same harness and put the car in reverse. If you see the change in voltage thats the wire.

As for the Slope... you plugged everything similar to my setup and yet your slop works? DAMIT, I hate you! LOL

MarK M
02-02-2006, 09:29 PM
someone chime in whos installed similar radios and has gotten the slope to work. Or if you tapped to a different wire for VSS then I have.

Please when posting if you can include a picture.

Well slope isn't working now. It was working when I had the vss connected to the pink/black wire, I took like a 500ft drive and got nothing for the speed pulse on the n2.

Right now, my vss isn't connected. 8 hours is enough of trying to install the system for one day! I'll try hooking it back up to pink/black tomorrow and see if it wants to work yet...

MarK M
02-02-2006, 10:14 PM
i know what you mean by 8-hours is enough for one day. I was there. Hence why I still havent gotten my slope to work... http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It puzzles me that your slope works with the same wire i'm plugged into.

anyways, keep me posted!

Is the pink/black wire you tapped into in a hole closest to a corner of that connector? Or is it in furter? Also were did you end up putting your gps antenna.

I stuck mine in the middle back on the roof, right above the rear door. I couldn't seem to find another location that it would look normal, so just curious...
