Has anybody put a train horn on their h3? I went to a shop today, and for the horn plus install, it's $600. I checked around the truck, and wasn't really sure if there was much room, I can have everything mounted on the outside right? No compressors or tanks inside the truck?

NO train horn,
BUT
I did install a OOO GAH (ua gah) {eu gah) or however the heck you spell it.
I believe its around 115db's which is louder then the original horn
AND
Boy do heads turn when I use it. The whole thing mounts in the engine compartment. I attached it to the side of the air filter box and before anyone asks I also used an independant inline 15amp fuse. Its a clean install...
OH, the whole thing less then $50

Check around the rear for a place to mount the compressor and tank.

Bully makes a great line of air horns. Had a chrome dual horn w/compressor installed by dealer. Fits behind the grill. 135 dbl loud and legal. Cost $499. They hooked it up to the steering pad - so no need for an extra switch.

I installed a inexpensive 12 voltair horn. The whole project cost $25.00 .I used existing holes in h3 for mounting.
Its much louded then stock horn but not as loud as the horns your looking at.

4ophenia - Was the horn anything close to the size of these (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Train-Air-Horns-100-Duty-Viair-Compressor-150dB-Loud_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6779QQitemZ8059621 875QQrdZ1) ?
That would be nice if it would fit behind the grille. Do you need an airtank for it?
442 - That seems pretty loud. My goal is to make people wet themselves if they mess with my truck though, so it's gotta be way overkill. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Overkill = big $$$ you can always mount compressor on fuse box lid and find a spot for the tank down on the frame.Theres plenty of
room to mount horns behind grill.
Pics are not working again ?

I had one, but removed it when it was sold. We put the tank on the frame under the rear passenger, hid the twin horns in the grille (black so you couldn't see), and then the compressor next to the air intake box inside...that thing was loud -- but the compressor was noisy at times.

No doubt, the H3 horn is weak. Is there a direct swap horn that would be louder (without going to an air horn). Maybe an Escalade horn would fit and be louder?

Dealer installed H00961EA. Very loud.
I'm not a "honker" by nature, but I had a close call where someone almost backed into me. They must not have been looking. Or listening. When I tried the factory horn, it didn't alert the other driver. Driver hit his brakes last second. I wasn't too worried about my rig.
But if someone is not paying attention and it looks like an accident is about to occur, I just want to alert the other drivers to my presence. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Gota tell ya..
The OOGA Horn is 112 DB, installs easy and is easy on the $$$. Now if you listen to the sound bites the OOGA sounds NOTHING like that. Its sounds exactly like you would expect plus it WILL DRAW ATTENTION to your H-3...
