Yep, New Years Eve I decided to pull out of my garage to go pick up some more wine and forgot I had 15 people at my house with cars behind me in my driveway. I din't feel a thing as the trailer hitch rode over the top of the Infiniti's hood. Gotta love the visibilty out of the rear window!

Of course the H3 won and the Infiniti got a crushed hood and grill. I got a broken license plate frame.

The folks at Progressive Inusurance asked me if anything was left of the Infiniti after I told them what kind of truck I was driving http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Wow I guess a hitchcam is a small price to pay ($1100 installed)or equivalent backup camera.

I'm sure we will be hearing more of these backup accident stories in the future. I've seen at least 3 on this forum already.

Insurance claims cost money, both in the form of deductibles and future premium increases (since this is a collision claim).

Do insurance CO's offer a discount for this added safety feature? They should IMO. It would reduce claims I'm sure. it woul dbe interesting to see how many calims they get a year (not just HUMMERS) from people backing into one another.

I can relate (backed into a tree on New Years Eve). A backup camera is in the future, along with those annoying beeps, maybe a radar sensor, automatic rear gate opener.

Heck, I'll just disable reverse, that will solve the problem!

Best of luck to you my friend. I know how it feels. Post some pics of that Infiniti!

I was so embarrassed and my friend was pretty upset so finding a camera to take pics didn't really cross my mind. I wish I would have though! Just imagine the trailer hitch receiver smashing in the plastic grill and then riding up and over the hood about 1 ft. The only way I knew something was wrong was when his car alarm started going off.
