Rocker Panel Protection Add & Remove

Are the rocker bars as easy to remove and replace as the step bars, I wonder if switching when going offroad would be a pain? 4 bolts and you're good?

There are more than 4 bolts, but they basically go on the same sort of way.

They bolt up with 8 bolts each side, and they are a bish to tighten. You need air tools,.

I don't want to hear that. I may be doing mine in the parking lot of the hotel when we go up to Tellico next weekend. Waiting to hear today on shipping but probably getting them and having them shipped to the hotel since they probably wouldn't get here in time. After I get back I plan on doing to custom brackets so both the step and rock rails can be on at the same time.

Not sure why everyone says you need air tools to install the rocker protectors. I have helped install two sets, and no air tools were needed, and the official time study performed by GM for warranty on these steps had to be performed using hand tools (GM requirement).

No really, it had to do with getting everything lined up, and with all the cables and lines on the drivers side. Also, I did do it by myself. Not easy, but easier with air tools. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Seems like the best solution would be to keep the rockers on all the time and go with the removable U-steps. I think that would be a whole lot easier.

X3 on that, Plus i would follow HummBebe advice and break out the air compressor (left mine at home) would make those hard to reach bolts go faster http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

x4 - I've got the U-Steps and they are really easy to take on and off. About 20 minutes total for all four using hand tools. I'm sure it's faster w/air.

I can understand why GM wants it done by hand too. If you don't thread it first, and make sure it going in correctly, it has the potential of being crossthreaded and damaged. The area on the drivers side is so tight, it makes it very difficult.

TIP:
when using airtools, be sure to thread first, and do not over tighten. A light hand is best in this situation.
