H3 power drivers seat

Hello All -

I've searched but can't find the info I'm looking for...

Here's my question:
I have a H3 Adventure, NON Lux. I'm interested in getting a power drivers seat. Can this basic assembly be gotten and dropped in? Is the power seat wiring harness there, just not currently plugged in? I would like to just pull my stock fabric covers off the original seat and put them on the new seat.

So... Is this possible? And if it is, what is a seat assembly going to cost me?

I've had power seats in my 2003 Mustang (which I traded for the H3). I personally an glad I didn't go for power seats in the H3. Manual is much quicker and I don't need all of that position rearranging. Just a quick pull of the front lever to thrust the seat back and recline for a quick snooze on my lunch brake. I have not noticed a lack of room for my hand between the seat and the door. Have you? I've heard complaints and wonder if it is only the power users complaining.

Front to back positioning is not the issue. The big issue is seat base angle.

I find that I have to drive with the seat much farther back than I typically would. This is because my right leg gets uncomfortable being unsupported under the thigh if I sit closer.

I guess I was spoiled by my 4Runner and Subaru Forrester. Both of these have manual seats that have seat angle adjustment. I'm guessing the only way to get this on my H3 is to change out the seat?...

One way to find out is look under your seat and see if there are any connectors just laying under there. Sometimes, on some vehicles, GM produces one harness and leaves the connectors not used. I would have to access the part system and see if there are two different cross body harness available, and if so, find out what the differences are between the two.
I'll send myself a note to remember to look at the parts catalog tomorrow at work.

The best use I have found for the power seat is the ability to crank up the seat for better over the hood viewing when Wheeling, a huge difference compared to going over the same terrain in a manual seat.

I was asking my parts guy about this one day while waiting for some service and when he looked it up there was indeed a replacement harness you would have to get. The seat he said was $1500 I don't know what the harness cost.

Yikes! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif $1500 is way too spendy. I can think of a whole lot I'd rather do with that kind of cash. If one of the parts people out there has input I'd love to hear it.

Go aftermarket. The GM setup will cost at LEAST $1200 in parts alone, and you'll have a non-working seat heater switch to stare at. Additionally, the power seat is on the class-2 data circut, which creates a TON of interface problems when you add the setup to a truck. There is at least one dealer in my area that is adding them to cloth seat trucks, since they have about 2/3 of their inventory that way due to GM ordering restrictions early on.

Part number and price for a new adjuster assembly: 89041536 - $442.00.
Part number and price for a new frame (this may not be necessary, not sure): 10388123 - $75.10
Price for a new wiring harness: approx. $800.00-$900.00; depends on the other option on your vehicle. (There are about 10 different body harnesses for the H3, all dependent upon option content.)

Prices do not include seat heaters which would be extra. In addition, price does not incude outer trim where the switch(es) are installed or the lumbar air pump, which would not be required unless you added in the bladders too.

You could, use a homemade wiring harness and save the big bucks for the new harness. This would be a completely independent system that simply controls the location of the seat adjuster; thus the seat itself.
You could wait for a while, and check junk yards, there are bound to be some wrecked H3s; especially in large metro areas.

In addition, for clarification purposes only, the seats, lumbar or heaters are not on the class 2 data link bus. Only components on the class 2 are:
BCM - Body control module
EBCM - electronic brake control module
SDM - inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module
IPC - instrument panel cluster
PCM - powertrain control module
Radio
RSE - rear seat entertainment
TCCM - The transfer case shift control module
VCIM - vehicle communication interface module (OnStar®)
