The story below is not a joke. I've confirmed it from several news sources and blogs -- --

NBC Plants Muslims at NASCAR
April 06, 2006 09:31 AM EST

By Sher Zieve – NBC’s Dateline is reported to have planted Muslims at a NASCAR event, in order to uncover anti-Muslim sentiment. The NBC action is said to have been a “sting operation”.

NASCAR, who confirmed with NBC that it had purposefully sent “Muslim-looking men” and a camera crew to the race in an attempt to see if there would be ‘racist’ activities, said it is “outraged” at this attempt by NBC to create the news. NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said Wednesday: "It is outrageous that a news organization of NBC's stature would stoop to the level of going out to create news instead of reporting news."

There are no reports that anyone bothered the Muslim-looking men.

George SSSS coment: The most disgusting part of this is that NBC is in its last season of a multi-year NASCAR broadcast contract. Next year, NASCAR will put the contract out to bid. NBC sports and NBC news are conspiring to drive down the value and price of the NASCAR broadcast contract by trying to brand NASCAR as racists. For an FCC licensed entity that is supposed to protect the public trust, this absolutely incredible. However, NBC will be protected by other of the "mainstream" (read: "old") media who won't meaningfully report or comment on what happened. This story was on the very last page, lowest corner of the sports page of the newspaper I subscribe to, buried beneath some other items.

Sorry for the long tirade, but it is amazing that NBC news wants us to believe it is an oracle of truth. They are as corrupt as ENRON.

No say it isn't so. I would not believe that a news agency would do such a thing. OMG what is the world coming to. I can no longer watch the news and expect the truth. What is there to live for??? Hope your catching the sarcasm!!!! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Thanks GLBLWARMR. The fact that no one will be shocked or will disbelieve it speaks volumes for the credibility of network news.

Yeah no kidding. The scary thing is I think the tabloids are probably speaking more truth than any of the news networks. It's a sad (great, haven't decided which yet) day when I get better news reports from Comedy Central shows than from Fox or the others.

Big three media bring teh suck. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

I wonder if NBC will run a story on NASCAR fans NOT giving those men problems. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
From the Chicago Tribune (http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-0604060230apr06,1,7248899.story?coll=chi-sportsnew-hed):

NASCAR said it was "outrageous" that "Dateline NBC" targeted its racetrack in Martinsville, Va., last weekend for a possible segment of a larger piece on anti-Muslim sentiment in the United States. NASCAR said NBC confirmed it was sending Muslim-looking men to a race, along with a camera crew to film fans' reactions. Apparently no one bothered them, NASCAR said.

If it were not for the news, where would everyone get their opinions from. How would we know what a horrible country we are?
