View Full Version : WHY different color lug nut covers ?

RubHer Yellow Ducky

Why are some std wheel lug nut covers all gray/silver and some are gray/silver with a black elipese ?

Is it based on the date of maunfacturere or the truck color or some other factor ? HUH, F5 ?

I'm currently using FUSION SPRAY to make mine all black (truck is yellow) and will paint the HUMMER letters bright yellow. Will post a pic as soon as done.

I think it does have to do with the build date. Mine has the all gray/silver and it seems to me the ones I see with these are newer. Thats is probably why almost all you see on ebay have the black since they are been out longer. Could be wrong though.

Build date would make sense.

hn - didn't you buy yours like a week after me? Ours could've been on the lot at the same time, but my center caps have the black handles.

I'll have to check the build date.

Too much time on your hands http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif if you are looking at your lug nuts that closely.

I pick mine up on 2/4 but am not sure on the build date. I do know that mine had just come in and that it was new enough that the GM badge is in the new location. Is your GM badge next to the H3 logo or in the new location?

Mine are chrome, but so are the wheels.

It was around the beginning of the year they made the change at the factory and ALL H3s will now have the gray/silver.

Oh, picked mine up on 1/19. Mine was made in 11/05. My GM badge is next to the H3 logo.

Well, I painted mine completely black anyways, so I guess it was for the best for me.

Have not checked my build date but based on Brian's post it was after 1/1/06 so mine is a true '06 model http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I think we are unraveling something bigger here than just the color of part of the center caps. Something bigger than all of us put together can even fathom.

I picked these up on Ebay and knew in advance that the previous owner had done some paint work to both the rim and the center cap. Personally I would not have done what he did but don't care as I got these for strictly wheeling or to powder coat. Either way, doesn't matter since I got all four for $70 http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

$70 US but that was not just for the center caps, that would not be a good deal. It was four wheels and four center caps, which was a great deal http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Yeah...that's weird of you. Perhaps you should schedule some events down there, and maybe one of us will just stay. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I've read about offroading in the everglades/big cypress, don't imagine it would be anything challenging...but you should check it out so I know if I should do it next time I'm down there.

NO NO

You don't take H-3's, 2's or 1's or jeeps or rock crawlers where SWAMPBUGGIES go.

Swamp buggies go through 4 foot of water like we go through 10 ". They have HUGE massive tires and can carry lotsa people..

Yea driving in swamps exceeds the Hummer criteria for going through 20 inches of water. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

What?! When did the Everglades become swamp land?! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I believe it was Bear Island Unit of Big Cypress that said it allowed 4x4'ing, street legal 4x4s too. Saw a picture of an suv doing something there...

If all else fails, I'll just load my H3 on a fan boat and do some crazy offroading.

HummerNewbie

I believe there are a lot of trails in Big Cypress for the H3.

"Due to low water levels Zone 4 of the Stairsteps Unit within Big Cypress National Preserve will be closed, until further notice, for airboat travel effective 12:01 a.m. Monday, April 3, 2006." Oh it's the airboat use that is restricted. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif But Big Cypress National Preserve does sound like a good place to take the H3.

If it doesn't start soon it is going to be fire season here just like back in '98 or '99, whenever that was.
