help...

got the brush guard on the front with the 4 bolts where the removable black vent guard was once.

Now how to you get that thing back on? It is no longer recessed as it was before putting the grille guard on.

So what' the key in getting the piece of black plastic to snap back in place???

Thanks,
Amy

Amy,
You should have gotten a replacement (plastic) fan guard with the brush guard to replace the old, which, as you have found out, will not fit.
Ask for it, where you have bought the brush guard.

Amy, line up the grill, (You can see where the clips line up), and mark it where the brush guard interfears. You will be removing approx 1/2" of the material, (seam line on both sides), of the grill, I used a copping saw. If you need to see a photo can post shortly.

Can't tell on mine, but I will be making a call also. I didn't get or know about a replacment grill!

yep BIG z...that is what I am about to whip out..the little dremel with my plastic cutting wheel! No big deal...just wished I had known before screwing in all those bolts that have super long threads.

And no replacement grill. Arghhh...it was bought from someone who ordered the grill but did not put it on. So they have the piece I need...and they are in texas.

I called about a replacement gril this morning from the dealer and it was a whopping $115.00.

Nah..I will just whip out the old dremel instead. Anyway you cannot see the cutting if I ever took the brush guard off which I dont plan on doing any way.

Oh well more work than I have planned for the morning.

Glad to know that there are other "saw-happy" folks like me. When in doubt saw it off!!!!

I have the grill guard and off-road lamps installed from the dealer, if I buy the grill insert piece, I will have to take off the guard, lamps and grill, will I have to face the issue as Amy faces now? or not, because the guard was already on, the issues of fitting have been addressed already?

Mac, You shouldn't have any problems with your installation of the inserts, and will not face the same issue of notching the black vent guard as Amy faces now.

Mac,
We're not talking about the aluminum grill insert here, but about the black plastic fan guard (with lots of round holes in it, under the slotted grill).
The stock fan guard will not fit, when a brush guard is installed after-dealer.
Unless you cut it as described above or were lucky (?) to get a replacement up on receipt, like me.

okay...I look like hell, but I got it on there..

Had to use the band saw and trim like you said and it was a piece of cake. The hard part is dusting the plastic crap off your clothes.

I made two "L" shaped cuts and kept cutting until I had it fit correctly and everything snapped tightly into place.

I am emailing the guy online to let him know of the "difficulty" I had installing it. Not hard but more than 30 min total to put it on. I would have only taken 8 minutes with the right piece of plastic.

And who knows, GM could have changed the part design, but after I flipped that part over I learned that there are TWO plastic grill inserts.
One for ordering with the brushguard and the other for those who did not at the time of assembly.

Oh well...now you know!!! And I sustained one minor cut to my right index finger from the chrome plastic grill...all fingernails are intact!!!

no Mac you are quite fine. I was thinking about your inserts when I was taking the piece off.

Nah, you will just be popping things off and a little unscrewing here and there. But nonetheless an easy project that you can probably do in less than an 45 minutes.

Amy, forgot to suggest earlier. Medium strength is plenty, and will save parts from loosening, and falling off.

The loctite is for the bolts that hold on the brush guard (or other parts). It is A thread locker, available in all auto part stores. Not For The Clips.

Hey Tonka...

Can you get good deals on dead sea salts and mud?
I need about 50lbs of each.

There is set of off-road lamps for sale, currently $19.95. Text says H1, but they look exactly like my factory off-road lamps with Hummer logos.

Greetings! My H2 came with brush guard lamps and I am having a roof rack lights installed. Dealer says both cannot be hooked up at the same time. Any solutions or fixes out there?

That's funny. The dealer here in CastleRock did both front and top...No problem. MedVed Hummer did it in about 30miins!

huh? No to put the grill inserts just requires you to just open up the hood and then attach from the inside of the grille. I am sure that the new inserts will be snapped in like the current one. My only problem was that I did not get the correct fan guard when I ordered my brushguard aftermarket.

Can you provide any information on the dealer who did yours? Do they operate off of the same switch? My switch is located on the where the Garage Door opener buttons are. I would like to have the other lights functional.

Thanks for the dealership name. I will give them a call tomorrow. They have a website and I was able to get contact info.
