NecVox Head Unit

I just came across the thread regarding this near-OEM looking set-up and absolutely love it. I was wondering if the NecVox head unit is a direct replacement for the OEM unit or do I need a Metra kit for installation. I did notice that PhilD said that the replacement device is a little narrower than OEM.

Or should I simply go with the Pioneer DVD-GPS-NAV system (which is also double-DIN) ?
