Japan's New Gasoline Source? Cow Dung
From Times Wire Reports
March, 4 2006

Scientists in energy-poor Japan say they have found a new source of gasoline — cattle dung.

Sakae Shibusawa of the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology said his team had successfully extracted 0.042 ounce of gasoline from every 3.5 ounces of cow dung by applying high pressure and heat.

"The new technology will be a boon for livestock breeders" to reduce the burden of disposing of large amounts of waste, Shibusawa said.

More than 551,000 tons of cattle dung are produced each year in Japan, he said.

551,000 tons of cow dung equals 13,224,000 gallons of fuel a year ????

551,000 X 2000 = 1,102,000,000 lbs X 16 oz = 1.7632 to the 10th divided by 3.5 = 5,037,714,286 X .042 = 211,584,000 divided by 16 oz = 13,224,000

Yes/No ?

Yes/No ? There are more than 16 ounces in a gallon. I think it is 128, or some crap like that. Should be divided by that rather than 16...I think.

Would still be 1,653,000 gallons. Or there about.
