View Full Version : Anyone have Itronix's Hummer laptop?

Thinking of buying another laptop and REALLY like the idea of the integrated wireless cell phones for communication.

It's alot of money and though the ability to be dropped 30" sounds interesting, it really doesn't matter to me.

Anyone have one? Opinions?

Thanks,

Mark

If that's what you are looking for get a Panasonic Toughbook!

I have one and use it when I'm playing Rugby. I hardly ever get a GPF.

I put mine down on the ground, in the dirt, to post on Elcova.

Did you see me in the ad?

DDWH,

The problem is Panasonic doesn't incorporate the wireless cell phone tower bit...

They look nice. But the price is up there.

There was another thread about this not too long ago, and someone actually uses it and says it's Tough. I'll look for it.

I bought an Acer at Circuit City about 6 months ago. While it doesn't have the integrated phone stuff, it did only cost about 500 bucks after rebates. I only use it for trips and stuff, so if I break it, so what. It's damn near disposable at that price. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks H2Rocks,

I read the post and though I agree with some of it, the main reason I'm interested is the ability to use Cingular wireless cell towers.

For a couple of thousand, it would be worth it but not for 3 or 4 grand.

We'll see what other options are out there.

Thanks,

Mark

As the owner of an ISP, for 10 years I have seen a lot of itronix products. Got to say, they are tough and dirt-proof. BUT, you can pick up a used itronix laptop on ebay cheap....really cheap for the PII ones.

For wireless access you dont want to use the cell. What you want is the verizon card, its high speed....T1 speed basicly and works AWESOME. Go to a verizon store and try.

Now, if you want the ultimate in access from ahywhere you need a motosat system, which I may say (PLUG) I am an authorised dealer and FCC certified installer of =). Got one on my motorhome....

Mark I would save the dough and buy a decent lappy for 2k or less and go with a verizon card. Or if you absolutely want built in Cingular, check out the Sony TX series (http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_BrowseCatalog-Start;sid=WNqnm7iMYr6m8fyrCWOtkPec9koxT54CrlE=?Cat egoryName=cpu_VAIONotebookComputers_TXSeries&Dept=computers). I have worked with several of these and though a bit small, it's very portable. Keyboard takes a bit of getting used to, but Xbrite is the shiznit!! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
