H2 Issues and Gremlins list

I think that in the wake of GM apology and also in an effort to help others out, I propose we add this list to our forum.

I would like to have a sticky shortly (once this starts filling up) on the known issues and gremlins that these rigs have. I also believe that it would help the readers if we posted a link to the fix/or information about.

I dont believe this should be a thread of conversation since it will only take up more space. I think just posting the issue you know of and the fix or information about it would be fine.
Multiple posts on the same subject are fine as long as the link to the fix or information proves to be different then those previously posted.

I will monitor this thread so that way it stay clean and useful.

I think this could be a very useful tool for all those with interests in H2s.

Re: H2 Issues and Gremlins list

I will start:

Shifter Cable nut issue

The H2s and other GMs are know for there shifters to get stuck. This is usually because if you look underneathe the truck the shifter cable has detached itself from the shifter link that is attached to the shifter in the cab.
This happens because the placement of the shifter linkage is so close to a HOT transmission and the "bushing" or "nut" that holds it in is exposed to those temperatures. This causes the plastic bushing to get brittle and over time it breaks.
The fix used to be to buy a whole new cable assembly for about $125 just to get the "bushing" or "nut". Now you can spend about 3 bucks and get it done, probably even better.

Here is a post on another forum about it, including a write up on the fix and pictures
Hope this helps

Re: H2 Issues and Gremlins list

These are the ones I've dealt with on most of my four H2's I've owned, and heard other people having the same issues:

-wiper module not sealed properly
-front differential seals leak often (typical with all GM)
-interior squeaks & rattles (old stlye, can't comment on new style)
-stepper motors in instrument panel

Re: H2 Issues and Gremlins list

I'll agree with the Stepper Motors in the instrument panels

The $150 shift cable ( p.s. I want a big refund for the difference of the cable and the clip)

and I would like to add the crappy black plastic in the front and back bumpers that will never stay black

the water leaks around the clearance lights and corner lights

Lynch Hummer carried a flat black metal replacement for the front center bumper and side pieces - I had them on my 2004 H2 and I think they ran about $650. I used to see them on Ebay now and then. I've tried everything on the back bumper, including Back to Black, and Bart's Black Bumper paste, but Griot's Bumper reconditioner seems to last the longest on my H2.

Re: H2 Issues and Gremlins list

I had the three piece metal front bumper set on my 05 H2 SUT - I wish I had taken them off when I traded it, but I thought at the time they would always be available after market. I bought them off EBay in 2006 and someone had chromed them, so I sandblasted them and painted them flat black.
I also siliconed under all the roof marker lights and have never had any water issues.
