need immediate tranny help

Hey guys,

I am currently in Sidney, Nebraska heading to Reno for a Military school that i have to be on Sunday morning.

my tranny overheated then gave out about 18 miles out of town. i was able to limp it to town though to a walmart to diagnose it.

the fluid was overfilled. was about 1.5 to 2 inchs above the hash marks.
driving:
i some times have 1st gear, but nothing afterwards, including reverse.
i have to drop it all the way to 1 or 2nd gear to get it to move.

i dropped about 2 quarts of tranny fluid, and replaced not even 1 full quart to get it to where its suppose to be.

its 7:30pm here, so all repair shops are closed, and i assume i wont know a deffinite answer until tomorrow.

what can you guys advise as to the possible problem?
am i looking at a rebuild?
how much can i expect to pay?

anything would be great right now

This is strictly a WAG but from past experience you could have a radiator leak of your transmission cooling lines getting antifreeze in the transmission lines and making it overfilled. In that case you are going to need a radiator and rebuilt transmission. $2300????

Oil + coolant = milk... Is that what came out of the tranny?

Edit..and foam in the dipstick

Re: need immediate tranny help

no coolant mix with Tfluid

everything else (besides tranny) works fine.

i had a huge response written up, but website is stupid and lost everything i wrote when i submitted.

long store short now...

shop doing repairs is http://www.saudersinc.com/

they only replace trannies from http://www.certifiedtransmission.com/

the H2 is going to be diagnosed today (sat) and assuming tranny needs to be replaced, they will order it today.
it will be delivered Monday, and assume all repairs are done by Tuesday/Weds

the town did not have any taxis, or chain car rentals, so i had to get a rental from a car dealership @ $30 a day. i cant afford to have this rental for 2 months, and it needs to be returned to the dealership in Nebraska.

so now i need to figure out how to get it back there which is 1100 miles away, and not miss any school days... and i doubt i will get 24 hours off any time soon......

btw.. i feel more comfortable asking from this community that anywhere else..

if anyone is near Sidney, NE and wants to drive to Reno, let me know.
would rather have someone who has experience with an H2 than someone who has only ever driven a small car.

or if your in Reno and willing to return this rental car to Sidney...

if someone is willing, PM me. im sure we can work something out so you can make some extra $$$

Before you order up a regular rebuilt tranny consider some options:

http://www.transmissioncenter.net/4L...4L80E_Swap.htm

http://www.cbtransmission.com/page/page/5701242.htm

http://inglewoodtransmission.com/jm/

http://www.ckperformance.com/resourc...SMISSIONS.html

You may also want to switch out to the Corvette Servo while it's all apart

Re: need immediate tranny help

the problem is i am not too familiar with transmissions... so other than the model of tranny i have, im not too sure what to really order or what not.

i do know i do not what a stock 4L65E put back in.
it has to be upgraded/beefed up to last another 5 years or so.

i was planning on getting the stage 2 tranny from the company the shop uses, they call it the Ripper 2000
http://www.certifiedtransmission.com/roadripper2000.asp

also my max budget for all work is $3500. but that has to include everything...
also, im sure my wife would like that to be alot less too...

i would love to be able to drop in a 6 speed tranny and not have to worry about any programing, or crazy wiring or anything, as im sure this shop would rape me in costs. as they have never done a conversion like that, im sure there would be some corners cut, or makeshift wiring or something that would bite me in the ass when i really need it to work right.

so feel free to offer any advice

Re: need immediate tranny help

So estimate came in today

Went with the roadripper 2000

Total cost is $4100

That includes freight, installation/labor, taxes and some additional things I'm having them fix while they are at it.

Not happy with the cost, nor knowing if I'm getting a good product. Just don't want to get something that will fail on me while I'm away from home, nor within the next few years. The warranty is solid though.. 3 year / 50k miles and I can take to any shop for repairs. So that's a good thing.

I guess I'm worried that my H2 failed on me at a critical time, I don't know if something else will give out before I get home.

Re: need immediate tranny help

well $4700 for the tranny and odd stuff i had repaired, and $300 for the rental.. i finally have my baby back.

new issues arose tho.. the dreaded " Air Suspension" message.
was working when i dropped it off to them. they told me about it and i told them to look for leaks and what not. i had replaced both bags about 2 months ago, so i was confident it was just a leak.

well they recalibrated it, but it fails to lift. :(
i didnt have time to leave it with them to figure it out as i had to get back to Reno, but boy i pissed off alot of truckers last night.

the tranny works great. the temps barely went over 130 degrees the whole trip from Neb to reno.

trying to get a parts list of whats in the tranny

Geeze dude that sucks, I'm sorry to hear about your troubles as they are much more serious than I've wined about in the recent past.

I hope your new tranny will be your last problem for a while.

Odd how it just went out all of a sudden.....
