NEW "SEE THRU" TIRES

Radical new tire design by Michelin. The next generation of tires.

They had a set at the Philadelphia car show.

These tires are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon.

The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these tires.

This is what great R&D will do, and just think of the impact on existing technology:

a. no more air valves
b. no more air compressors at gas stations
c. no more repair kits

SCAN DOWN & SEE.

These are actual pictures taken in the South Carolina plant of Michelin. It will be awhile before they are available to the automotive industry.

Here's an offroad version.

Cool idea, they look kinda odd, maybe they could figure out a way to cap the sides to give the tires some mass.

One issue, how the hell are we supposed to 'air down' with these? Only one set density doesn't sound right, although the one pictured is conforming to those rocks pretty well.

The biggest problem I see is the least little bit of ice or mud collecting inside is going to wreak havoc on the balance. Just imagine constantly cleaning those ribs out.

I would also guess cornering performance would suffer without sidewalls to distribute the loading, but who knows?

Yea you would think conering would be affected but how it would feel "in the seat" i am not sure.. I would have to feel more squishy or unsettled.
