Regular H3 to ADV, worth doing?

I wanted the adv package when I got mine, but the numbers weren't there, so I ended up with a non-adv. I understand that the differences are: lower crawl ratio, 33" tires, locker in the rear. I have read that Eaton makes a locker for our axle and 33's would be easy to do, how about the lower crawl ratio in the TC? Too much money for too little gain? or a valid upgrade? Does the reg H3 fall way behind the adv H3 on the trails?

The driver makes more difference than upgrading. A competent driver with a stock H3 will out-wheel a sh*tty driver in the adventure. That said, get the 33s, stick w/the stock transfer case, and use BTM. Save your $$ for under-carraige protection and rock rails...

Agreed, trading at this point will be the most expensive adventure package possible at $5000 plus if you include the tax and license you have to pay again. Poor use of good money.

oh, no! trading is not an option! I already got reamed on my trade, so there is no reaming room left. I just was curious what the seasoned H3er's thought about the value of upgrading what I already have. I have rock rails and 33's planned for the future. What is BTM? something about brake/throttle/modulation? How is it done?

Add the 33s and some protection then go wheeling. Most Adventure model owners change tires and add protection anyway, so you're not too far behind at all. You can always add a locker later, if you find that you can really benefit from it offroad. The 4:1 low-range ratio did not appeal to me, as most of my offroading is sand dune climbing. It depends on where you wheel if you can make better use of the lower crawl speeds it makes possible.

I just put BFG TA KO's on mine.
http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/overv...t-a-ko/44.html

My last trip to MOAB tweeked the stock tires. Stayed with 33's Too much highway travel in between offroad trips. The TA give a better ride than stock.
Tonight I'm going to run them out in the desert and see how they do.
