Hi, in general which is more reliable, the H1 or the H3 ?
Also in regards to maintenance cost, repair cost and parts cost which one is more expensive ? Thanks.... |

Maintenance costs well that should be a 'no brainer'...the H3 will be exponentially more affordable to maintain. Think about it...the H3 is all GM parts; many of which are shared with the Colorado/Canyon. GM dealers are all over the place...not to mention the array of aftermarket parts that are readily available. The H1 is AMG...I've never seen a AMG dealer. Maybe in Mishawaka, Indiana, but not in my neck of the woods. From what I understand there's also a lot of variation over the years regarding part fitment, some things are real specific to what model year your truck is. Since the parts aren't as common or readily available they're gonna cost more; and if you're not doing your own work, the 'uniqueness' of the truck itself is going to make finding a qualified/willing/capable mechanic more difficult. |

H3 is an order of magnitude more reliable and the maintenance costs for the H1 could easily exceed the purchase price of the H3. The heater core is almost impossible to repair set aside $3700 to change it over to the new style. Then there's the tire inflation system, figure another $3000 to fix that if your problem is a minor one. If you want one where you can do more yourself look at a 1996 gasser, not much power but easier to work on.
