What your example/personal experience does NOT take into consideration is the fact you started out with a 5 model year old 1997.5.
So now factor in all the costs to bring, say a 9-12 model year old ...1997 ...or a 1996 ...or a 1995 ...or even a 1994 just up to the level you STARTED at ...like $5,000 for a HVAC upgrade, etc., etc.!
