Default V8 a reality.

This is not hearsay, I saw it with my own eyes. I took old yeller down to the dealer for the rear end again and the sales manager showed me the papers sent to them by Hummer. No pricing yet but come September, there we will own one of the first V8s. He says more details will be coming soon. Dayum I'm glad I didn't jump on the 3.7!

He told me "About September sometime." He's going to call me as soon as ordering is allowed. Our biggest problem is what color to get since the yellow's not available. He also said that he wasn't sure if yellow was going to stay gone because of the hubbub that taking it away has caused.

You know what this means to me??

That I will be able to pick up a clean H3 for a DD, and turn mine into a dedicated trail rig....

That's my idea too.. Except I want to find a ratty H1 SUT beat to poop and fix-er up for the trail and not have to worry about roll overs..

So Bebe's .. you could keep the rig you have now and really build on it more and then buy yourself a Loaded Bling Machine.

I saw the picture. Nothing was for real until I saw it with my own eyes at the dealer though.

If you want a good feel for how the new H3 Alpha will perform, simply test drive an Envoy Denali. Same weight and instead of the over 10 second 0-60 time of the H3, it'll be under 7 seconds! It's tow rating is a full ton more than the H3. It's 0-60 rating will be better than the Fuggin Junk and even what all the magazines called a real hot rod, the Xterra. We drove the Denali Envoy and it's VERY MUCH a performer. The 5.3 will have active fuel management and the Envoy gets 16city 22hwy ( I have no doubt that the blocky H3 will get somewhat less but I bet it's not much different than the I5)

No, none of us buy an H3 to be a hot rod but now it will truly live up to it's billing "Like Nothing Else" It'll tow better, pass better, climb mountains better, and pull the All Terrains better. (I'm gonna puke if they only put the V8 in a 2wd bling machine)

I'm already planning for a nice dynomax exhaust system. I've seen people put duals on I5s and that reminded me of Joan Jett wearing Pam Anderson's bra.

There's a good side to this, the people that like the I5 will have plenty of used vehicles to choose from. Here's a question: How many H2 drivers will want an H3 Alpha?

v-8 H3 $42k
new H2 $50K
GAP GETS CLOSER?
H4 will have the I-3?

Would I buy a V8 H3?... ... if GM put a traction control "OFF" switch in the I-5 that'd do it for me - ... anyway, back to the "would I buy one question"... I probably would, purely because here, fuel is no issue, and more importantly I bought a base H3 and REALLY wish I went for the Adventure....

If/when a V8 H3 comes out , I'm guessing it'll have the luxury and adventure packages as standard... they sure as hell aint gonna have the I-5 with various trim / options and the same for a V8 methinks!!!

Cheers

The I5 is adequate. It works. For people that don't mind it, I think it should stay in the lineup. The H3's a heavy vehicle. It has been driving me bonkers because of my commute. Any time we take it out of town, I definitely have to adopt the mindset of not passing. We have a 6.0 Denali and perhaps that's why it drives us bonkers because it seems like a hot rod compared to the H3 and when you get out of one into the other, the difference is profound. If all you drive is the H3, it probably never bothers you.

About that price? You're comparing apples to oranges. What new H2 are you going to get for $50k and what new H3 are you going to get for $42k?

Dayum folks, you act like I'm peein' on your hubcaps. Nobody's saying you should buy a new H3 or that the one you're driving is krap but can anyone seriously say that that the 5.3 isn't a better choice if one likes or needs more power? I've heard that people are resistant to change but this is ridiculous.

I've read on this forum, for over a year now, people buying this intake, buying that exhaust, sending their computer out to be reprogrammed, putting this performance gizmo on or that. Now, from the factory, we're going to have the choice of making the H3 a real performer in every aspect, not just offroad, and there's resistance!?

I'm thinkin' that maybe some folks are worried about their diminished resale or something because I can't figure it out.

Now, if I can just get Hummer to put in an integrated trailer brake controller and tow/haul mode for the tranny.....

fyi - GMC Envoy V8 AWD new 2007 ratings are 13/19
Hummer H3 -I5 4WD new 2007 ratings are 14/18

Therefore expect no improvement in gas mileage with V8 H3. But a huge difference in usable power and torque. But that lump of cast iron up front will do nothing for the onroad handling or offroad dynamics of the H3.

Owners of current H3's will end up paying through the nose to trade-up, if you include the $15K loss on a 2006 traded-in.

Later if I want a fast street SUV, I'll consider Ranger Rover Sport V8.

Saw what, a piece of paper the dealer had in his hands, or did you actually see the engine in a H3?

What kills me is many on this thread were naysayers a few weeks ago, now, because someone sees a piece of paper it is all real.

No need to answer, I already know that, as well as axles, t/case, ratios, will it be DOD or not, transmission, etc. I'll let all you state your own theories.
As for will I ever purchase a V8? Not really sure, but I can say this, unless Hummer comes out with some new colors next year, I will be jumping to the Jeep forum.
