Maybe I'm missing something here, but where is the line and hook? Is the line and thimble wound up on the spool until the winch is put to use? Do you attach shackle and hook after threading through the hawse fairlead? Seems like you'd want that all ready to go in case you need to winch out of deep mud or water. Also, how do you operate the brake / clutch and where does the controller plug in?

Very nice mods. Great work!

Uh. You got called a dumbass by Donky Kong, who was clearly stirring people up with nonsense. If you view that as a serious indictment of your stupidity and then second guess your intuition that increased overhang despite improved approach angle wouldn't be an issue, then I guess Donky Kong's insult was warranted.

Ok so I'm a dumbass, I've been called worse.

Thing is, until she wheeled it, she was estimating. Now she has some experience with it (potato salad hill is not a just backyard obstacle).

The rest of us are all just looking at photo's.

I have been supportive of these mods from the beginning. Donkey Kong called me a dumbass for the same conclusions about that bumper that you're making. We must both be dumbasses. The guy behind DK was attempting to make a legitimate argument about overhang.

I just wanted her perspective, now that she had some off road time with it on a big f*ckin rock. Photos were taken to show approach and departure angles. Bebe addressed the issue here, before she had the chance to wheel it. Now she has.

We both read the threads, maybe some others did too. Maybe it is a consideration and maybe not, I would like to know what she thinks. Not to give her sh!t or to kiss her ass. Mostly because I'm about to hang a winch out in front of my front bumper too. Nothing wrong with truth.

I could be wrong, but I thought she indicated that the winch is in a cradle setup, that can be placed in the front or the rear of the vehicle.

I prefer the little dumbass battle Ree and I were having, to that photochop war you're in with DRTY on the Hero's thread.

That is some seriously funny sh!t though.

Ok, here are my observations....

Quote:

He was trying to argue approach angle at first until I pointed out the difference between approach and overhang. Therefore, there was nothing "legitimate" about it.

There is more overhang as stated, however, the new height of the overhang, negates any approach angle loss. It's strictly a visual perception. I did not hit at all in Moab.

I am very impressed with the esthetics, and design. It is very well thought out., and incredibly functional.

I was speaking with someone on the phone a couple of weeks ago, and yes, I will need to turn my torsion bars again to recover some of the height I have lost from the 250lbs. of weight hanging off the front.

Other than that, only time and wheeling will tell. So far, perfect.

Not much for ass kissing, but I do give you respect for wheelin that rig through a lot more than I have.

I believed the bumper would not be much of an issue, and if it did hit it looks damn solid. My concern would be similar to your avatar photo. If that rock was slightly taller, the first point of contact might be with the bumper. Also in approaching a large step where angling the truck might be difficult.

I'm not attempting to say I'm a pro wheeler, just trying to learn what I can from others experiences. The guy behind DK probably has more wheeling experience than I do also, and I believe he said (as himself) that he had a "slight" issue with it.

That setup is slicker than what I plan to do for a winch, but it's also much more expensive. I will have approximately the same overhang directly in front of the grill, as you do.

Are you planning any kind of lift? That would make it even less of a consideration.

Bebe,

To be honest when I saw the initial pics of your mods I wasn't sure if I liked it, but after seeing the finished work I think it looks awesome and with functional improvement as well. Good work!
