MilSpec Hummers from Baghdad/My Intro

Ok guys and gals,
First off, I want to say thank you for all of the kind words and well-wishes I have received from the members of this board. I've read through a ton of the posts here, and this seems like a great community.

Here are a few pics (inside and out) of some the hummers parked outside here. For some reason, the ones with the weapons weren't out there just then. Now, I don't want to speculate where they are, but I guess we could just use our imaginations (read: some guy with a head wrap on has metal in his ass). I'll get more when they come back.

LOL - I'm probably not supposed to be taking pics out there either, so I'm glad I didn't get shot.

I also have some pics of a couple of Saddam's old cribs as well. I'll throw those up later when I dig them up.

Oh yeah, WHY in the hell am I in Iraq? Well, I happen to be a computer engineer. I was totally happy and content doing what I normally do in San Antonio (I also own a fitness training business in SA), but I received a very nice offer to come here, and I decided to take it. This isn't the normal computer geek work (which I hate). It's actually pretty interesting, and my system is used by everyone from the commanders here up to G-Dub in DC. I'm still very active in my training business, but for now, not getting hit in the head by a mortar is my primary concern. I'm getting the hell out of this country in just a couple of more months (Feb)!!!

The positives are that I'll be closer to an early retirement (I'm 29 y/o - no, REALLY) and I get to do something to directly help the 130,000 soldiers that are here. The negatives are that I'm away from my fairly new son, 15 month old giant Peyton (yes, I'm a big Vols fan - originally from Knoxville - he's already almost 38" tall/32lbs) and my wife.

My rig is a 2003 Lux (obviously Metallic Red). It has been babied. It goes off-road (LET ME REITERATE - I LOVE ROCKS, MUD, DIRT, HILLS, ETC), but it only has 17k miles on it (my daily driver has been a 2004 Chevy Z71). It has a ton of sh!t - Volant cool air intake, dvds, nav, Gobi roofrack, PIAA lights, ladder, SC Programmer, etc, etc, etc. The wheels are next (not sure why I've dicked around on it this long). Not sure what I'm going to do with them, but the rims will be black for sure. I actually came here for some ideas on what I'd like to do, and after seeing some of your rides, I can only say WOW!

I'm looking forward to wheelin' with a few of you in the very near future. Moab sounds like a blast, and maybe I'll build enough points up to be invited to make the run this year.

My interests? Hummers, beer, 4-wheelin', poker, fishing, and football (any sport, but especially football). Of course I love women - I hate getting my own beer and someone has to cook (plz don't tell my wife).

Oh yeah, my mother happens to live in Harlan County, KY, and they just opened up a huge off-road park there. I'd be all for organizing something for that area of the country (northeast Tennessee, SW Virgina, SE KY are havens for wheelin'). I wouldn't mind a little roadtrip up from TX (f'n 1200 miles). I guess I should warn you though - it is Deliverance-ville. I can hear the banjos now.

Yep - that's the "AC". It can get kind of warm in them here during the Summer (140 outside). It's just enough air hitting you to piss you off. I actually have a Mitsubishi Patero here (I didn't choose the damn thing), so I don't ride in the Hummers that often (sometimes). But believe it or not, the government does have some H2s here. I know they pay something like $3k per month to lease that little Patero. I don't think I want to know how much they're paying for the H2s!!!

The call for war/prayer is going off right now. I swear, those guys pray and then start blowing **** up. Hell, I guess if I lived here my entire life, I'd be pissed off too.

Thanks for the photos. I am spending New Year's eve at Giant Rock in Southern California. There is a huge Military Vehicle camp out for the weekend. Unimogs, Humvees, Pinzgauers, Volvo C303s, Duces, and I will be there in my H2. Pure Heaven...

Regardless of what I think about how Bush has handled the situation in Iraq, I would still like to THANK people like you that are in our military and protect our freedom. Without people like you, I'd be walking behind my camel.

On a side note, it's funny, I'm so used to seeing the civilian versions of H1's, I forgot how stripped down military versions are.

Thanks OrangeCrush (but I'm not military)! These guys over here that are really fighting deserve all of the thanks and credit.

Most of the ones that I've photographed are 20+ years old. The new military ones have DVD players in the headrests and nice sound systems.

They look just like I remember from my time in the Army. I think the only thing I ever rode in that was more uncomfortable was the back of a deuce and a half!

Funny, I had never thought of the A/C but I can see how its necessary.

Thanks IpeDog, means a lot. I did my time in the Air Force, so my hummer rides were quite limited.

But there's a good chance my life might end tonight. I just taped a co-worker shut in the porta-john. I'm going to go cut him out of there in 33 (maybe 63) minutes, but he's going to be pissed. It's pretty cold out there right now too. He's been whining all day, so I think the time alone will do him well.
