Yes, this is due to running the A/C in a closed loop for a long period of time and moisture will build up in the vents due to the lack of outside air.

Try opening the vents to outside air more often to get rid of the moisture and this will not occur.

Most of the time, a musty odoer, is caused by Microbial growth on the evaporator core, but can also be caused by debris being present in the HVAC module. Common with all AC systems; my Jeep was terrible.

There are automotive A/C disinfectants that you spray into the fresh air intake that will kill off molds and bacteria.

Yeah.
The odor that I get is more of a plastic / chemical smell, it goes away as fast as it shows up and it's happened since day one. I'm not sure that I'd chalk it up to moisture, it's not really that kind of smell. I had a/c moisture problems in one of my other cars and this is different. Also, the moisture smell seemed to lurk for a while unlike this smell that's gone in less than 15 seconds.

Yaaaah, That it! Anti-freeze... I couldn't quite put my finger on it before but that's the smell, sort of like anti-freeze. Good call Phantom.

No, I've done nothing to try and fix it, in fact I haven't had it happen for so long I sort of forgot about it.
