Switches will be the same as for any lighting set-up. There are tons of posts on the site, one fairly recent, where others and I reference many of the other posts. I'll check back when the Search is working and find it for you if no one does it before then. UPDATE: Here you go. This thread and all the links it contains should give you what you need. http://elcova.com/groupee/forums/a/t...1/m/9881000121 |
tower - thanks for the help! I've seen that picture on Warn's site and I think that picture just looks bad ass with those lights. I looked through all of the threads you linked me to, but I did not see anything about the Warn SDB-160HB light switch. Notice in the picture below...
![]() http://www.warn.com/truck/lights/sdb160.shtml From what I've seen and read that switch comes with double sided tape ![]() ![]() |
That picture kills me. Warn has an awsome winch bumper setup and yet they show it with a cheesy cradle/ hitch mount

Okay, switches are basically devices that either connect or disconnect 2 wires. The logic can get a little more involved than that when you start including relays. These lamps use H4 bulbs. They have 2 filaments in each bulb. One is for Hi-Beam (spot) and one is for Low-Beam (driving). I don't know if Warn has this kit set up for both filaments to be on during spot operation or just one, so this is the first thing you need to find out. There are 2 ways to do this. You can call Warn and ask them, or you can test the supplied switch. My guess would be that the 2 modes are Lo and Hi rather than Lo and Lo+Hi. If this is the case, the mode switch toggles between Lo and Hi.
If all my assumptions are correct, then you will need either a 3-position switch (off-on-on) or 2 switches and a single pole double throw (SPDT) relay to replace the Warn switches. Alternatively, you can mount the one they gave you on the interior colored panel to the left of the Onstar controls (not the argent colored one). To figure out the switch logic, do the following: Use V-O-A meter (or anything you have that will test for continuity) and in the ON position, check to see which of the wires has continuity with any of the others (write it down if you haven't done this before). Next, change to the other mode and perform the same test. I suspect that there are only 3 wires coming off this switch. If so, probably you will test A as being continuous with B in one mode, C in the other and B & C never connect. If so, A is the hot lead and B and C are Lo and Hi beams. Once you are armed with this info, PM me with the results and the type of switches you are using and I will explain how to wire everything. I will reply on the public post, but right now there are too many things unknown for me to schematize this for you. Good luck. If anything is unclear, PM and I will send my phone number. |
Tower - thanks again for the time you've taken with this. This seems pretty clear to me right now. It may be a few weeks before I can get started on this. I will give Warn a call and see what they have to allow. I think this may be the way to go for the grill guard lights though. I also should add that I will be installing the Delta 10x light bar for the H2 at the same time. Better to do all the wiring all at once I think.

The WARN bar is really nice & solid, though it's a bit of a pain to attach the upper bolts to the guard due to space constraints as the WARN bar rides over the stock lower tube. Having said that, I have only attached a pair of the Hella Black Magic to it, tried to mount a pair of Hella FF's and the aiming/pivoting hex screw is near impossible to get to as it is at the bottom rear of the housing. One thing you need to keep in mind is the space being very tight on the underside when you mount the lights on the bar, and you need to insert your socket from the openings on the sides where the bar is attached to the guard. IOW, small fingers will do wonders ![]() The WARN switch looks like a wired remote, should work well as you don;t need to drill any hole for a mechanical switch. |

Thanks guys, it certainly makes a lot more sense to mount the lights first, unfortunately for me, my lights arrived after the bar... Must plan better or be more patient next time

Hey Paragon,
How is the Warn bumper/winch set-up working out for you? If I recall correctly, you get into some deep mud. I am wondering if the capacity on your winch has been enough to get you out of trouble. There are a few 12k winch/bumper set-ups around, but none can touch warn's price. Sorry for going off topic. |
I have only used it 4 or 5 times in the past 8 months or so that it has been on there. The first time I used it's fullest capacity and had to spool the cable all the way out to get maximum pull. I had to pull out a ditchwitch as well as myself. I think I posted the story about it somewhere on here. I had the winch pulling so hard that it made the truck run rough because it was pulling so much voltage.
With a single block I think it's fine for most situations. |

My switches

Nice clean work, James. How do you like the lamps?
alldunh, what do you think? |
When the search feature came back alive, I done a search and found out James had these lights. I asked him about his switch install and this is what he sent me. I think it looks damn good. Matter of fact I am in the process of getting pricing for these lights and the Delta 10x light bar (this **** is not cheap btw). I think I will use those switches and mount them like James did. As good as that looks, I don't see any since in going to the trouble to install new ones. I think James has the 50,000 candlepower lights and I am looking at the 100,000 cp lights, but yea James I didn't ask: How do you actually like them?
|
alldunn
Think James had the SDB-210's on his, if so, those are rated at 200,000 CP each, and they fill up the bar nicely, OTOH, the 160's may look a bit small when mounted on the H2. I too like to find out how these WARN lights perform, though I'm not sure about the benefit of the dual beam as they already have plenty of reach in low. |
