Why don't I speak Spanish? Why don't you speak English!?
 

I am a telephone istall/repairman and I'm used to running into people who don't speak English but never untill about 5 min ago have I had someone get all a$$y to me for not speaking Spanish. I know enough to get by but if put in a language barrier situation I'm not going to be the one struggleing its gonna be the other way around. When she told me she no hablo then asked me if I habla and I said no, she just goes off on this rant about she can't understand why I don't speak Spanish and if I wanted to do my job better I should learn. All I can do is try to get her to shut up and show me where she wants the jack installed so I can do it and leave, without telling her how I fel on the subject but I like my job and want to keep it so I keep my mouth shut. There is nothing wrong with keeping your heritage but if you choose to move to a country that speaks English then learn the language thats what my family did when they came from Poland and Germany I believe thats what should be expected from everyone and we should stop catering to other languages maybe that would encourage them to learn English.

It's funny how people change with age, after makeing this post I got to thinking about when I was in school, I took Spanish because I live in Texas and figured I would need it later, besides I use to go surfing in Mexico alot back then. Now I just feel I shouldn't have to need it, I still remember enough to communicate in a me tarzan you jane kind of way but I'd like to see more people try English in the same fashion then at least they are trying and I'm happy to meet them in the middle.:rant:

I'd better stop while I'm ahead or behind or even or something like that:)

I've never been bitched at for not speaking mexican. I'll ream your ass out for not speaking English, I love doing that. If I were told that I need to "hablo" I dont even want to think of the level on enragement that would bring out of me. :raar:

my daughter gets embarrassed because i frequently walk behind people speaking spanish, pull out my phone and start puhing 1, then i tell them i am pushing 1 so they need to speak english...i think its funny, she doesn't.....

You know what burns my a$$....went into Lowe's tonite to look at some windows. Pick up the Pella brochure.....hold it one way and its english...flip it over and upside down and its all in spanish.

Walk through a sears store or other store in the mall....there is english and spanish on the signs....

You want to come to America....then you should speak the language!

Real estate commission in our state thinks we need to take Diversity classes so we know how to NOT offend non-americans....it offends me that I should be mandated to take such a stupid class!

i completly agree 100% its effin rediculous if you move to aonther country they expect you to learn their language, so if you come here learn ours! And in south florida these freakin spanish billboards, spanish when i go into a store im like no speak english! and then just spanish spanish spanish learnt he language if you move here. and also whats up with kids being able to go to public school take these programs where there education is in some other language. Also the driving booklet in florida is available in over 20 languages wtf is up with that. and this is my favorite story of all. I walked in to a burger king after a day of offroading, go to order the women asked me what i wanted to eat in spanish! So i said i dont speak spanish only enlglish, she answers i figured its better to answer in spanish first. calmy i ask for the manager, she then replies i am the manager. I flipped out yelling at her on how she should ask in english first becuase this is america and only offer her spanish to people who tell you that they do not speak english and how dare she ask me in another in language. then 3 other teenagers stood up and gave me a standing ovation, sure put that person in her spot for that. bottom line live in America learn how to speak english it should be a requirment for all people applying for citizenship.

When KenP took me to a NASCAR/Busch race in Virginia and I always wondered why the fans never spoke english.
