Side veiw mirror mishap

I recently had a buddy throw a umm.. soda bottle out of my passenger window and he hit the mirror. The glass places tell me you can't just buy the glass you have to buy the whole assembly. Anyone have any experience with this? Note: It is not heated nor does it have turn signals.
