I have a loaner 03 EXT while the wifes 02 Escalade is in the shop. The EXT has HID's and they are awesome. I'm not willing/wanting to spend the money for HID's for the H2. Is there a replacement bulb that I can buy that is "almost" like HID's that is safe and reliable? Part numbers, manufacturers and comments would be appreciated. With all the deer in PA I need better lights.....and a plow.

I have the SilverStars in my truck. Very happy with them. Much brighter than the stock bulbs.

I have had both installed on my H2. Of the two I recomend the PIAA Super White Bulbs, they are a very white light with very little blue. The Silvanias have more of a blue tint to them and I beleive that they are not as bright as the PIAA bulbs. No matter what brand you choose they all have some kind of coating on the bulb to give the color needed. Its all up to what you are fond of. BIG-C

When the lights are off.. Does the PIAA Extreme white reflect blue on the reflectors. That is my concern. I don't want my lights to look blue when they are off. The good thing about the Sylvanias are that they are not blue coated right?

Steer clear of many of the cheap fake Xenon bulbs, as they are often just regular bulbs painted blue. Higher color temp, but at the cost of brightness. I have Xtreme White bulbs in all my aux lighting and they are very bright and very white.

Try the Sylvania Silver Stars. They are brighter and whiter than stock bulbs. Available at Walmart for approx. $38.00 for a double pack. Also at Pep Boys for Approx. $25.00 per bulb.

Allan,

I keep watching that H1 vs H2 clip and I can't help wonder, how thick is your skin? Are you collecting more info for your next TV appearance?

I also opted for the Sylvania Silverstars. Sylvania also makes the OEM bulbs so these should be good quality. I have to say they do make a improvement in lighting on the H2, especially on High Beams. Well worth the investment!

89vette,

also check-out this source for bulbs.

http://catalog.com/susq/

there is a Hella bulb that is very close to the same light spectrum as HID.

Since I am not a H2 Hummer owner, I have not know about the H2 headlight set up, but if they are the 6024 like on the H1, Sylvania makes a HID headlight that replaces the 6024 headlight. There are two versions of them, the first generation sucks and make sure you do not end up with them or you will not be happy with them. The second generation that came out this mid summer are much better, cost is about $400 I think.

The Silver Stars bulbs are about the next best thing for the money, you get a little more light of them, but also a better color. I have the X2020 HID from Sylvania on the Suburban and the highbeams are the Silver Star and side by side to the HID, they are great IMHO.

I put the SilverStars in tonight, they are better than the OEM bulbs but I sure miss my HID's (Lincoln Navigator)

I also bought the Silver Stars. The difference over the stock bulbs is huge, much brighter and a much whiter light.

What's the difference between the Xenon XD5 bulbs and the XD5 H7 bulbs on your website? I want to order some but I'm not sure which ones I need for my '04 H2. Are these the PIAAs you are referring to in your post?

The PIAA 19617 bulbs fit in the stock headlight housings. You can change them both in about two minutes. I just installed mine tonight. The light is definately whiter than the stock halogens but they are not like the HID's that were on the Escalade I had as a loaner. With the HID's items such as road signs and the white line on the road seemed to really stand out. I might try the Xenarc HID conversion to get brighter white light.

Hey BA,

Those are not the PIAA bulbs but they are XD5 brand. The H7 bulb set is for your H2's headlights and the H3 bulb set is for your factory off road lights. For less then $20 a set there well worth the money, they are a hot product on the site. No matter what our XD bulbs or the PIAA bulbs will be an improvement over the stock yellow looking lights. BIG-C
