Default Stupid traffic question ...

I was driving to lunch today and the right lane was blocked off with cones. Meanwhile the left lane was backed up through a traffic light, leaving the right lane empty for half a mile before the cones started.

I hate to see a stretch of perfectly good lane go to waste, so I always merge a short distance before the lane actually ends. It earned me (and a few other drivers) plenty of dirty looks tho. Two drivers wouldn't even let me in.

Why can't people use all the space available and then take turns. Didn't they learn anything in kindergarten?

So you are one of those pricks.

You merge when you see there will be one so there will be no "taking turns" and everything goes through smoothly.

The only reason there is waiting and confusion is because we have to stick close to avoid cut-ins because we are the good ones and then finally hault to unwillingly let one of you pricks in.

If traffic was moving smoothly, I would have merged as soon as I saw the cones up ahead. But in this case, traffic was at a snail's pace because of the stoplight at the end.

Three open intersections and one other stoplight were blocked by this line of cars. If everyone had only filled both lanes and taken turns merging, it would have opened the light plus at least one intersection to cross-traffic.

I think it's easy for people to get grumpy and jealous when they sit in line next to an empty lane, even though they could have been sharing the other lane too. It's fair when you share. Don't blame me if you choose not to

But nobody takes turns.

I like it when the on the highway there's a merge and the big rigs block the merging lane so the "four wheelers" can't run up and cut in.
