I am a Senior in Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech and am conducting a survey for a new breed of Hummer that GM is currently considering. This new Hummer will be larger than an ATV, but small then a Jeep. Please answer the following questions below, it would help GM and our design team greatly. Thanks
1.What do you like and dislike about your current Hummer?
2.What types of things could you do with a cheaper more capable Hummer?
3. How much would you pay *this new Hummer will cost around 10,000-25,000.
4. Do you use your Hummer to the fullest capabilities, if so how often?
5. What would you expect to see from this Hummer/ATV new breed coming?
Thank you for your time, we really appreciate it.

First you come in here asking for a favor but don't worry with little things like spelling correctly or even attempting to seem legit. Now you want to insult us with a passing comment.

Virginia Tech Hummer 0.5 Design Team

If you expect someone to respond to your "inquiry," if I was you, I would consider taking an English class and learning how to spell and write.
If you remotely had any credibility, you would at least not have misspelled "than" and "breed" incorrectly TWICE each. Sheesh!

While we are on this level of discussion:
Why is it that people would like to reinvent the wheel?
Tooling costs for a new vehicle is in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Even when parts bins are shared (like using an existing engine/tranny/transfer case combination), there are still costs involved that would require a minimum run of 40k vehicles per year for 3-4 years.
Secondly, I've rarely seen private sector industry using colleges to do their research. They pay millions of dollars to companies to do this type of entry level information gathering.
Third, I do find your spelling rather alarming for a ME. I know spell check is the norm nowadays, but as an engineer myself, I'm really worried about the type of engineers that are coming out of school.

Just how offroad capable is the FX? From what I understand, correct me if I'm wrong, its only good in sand.
If GM actually wants to make a somewhat capable rock crawler, mud bogger, etc like vehicle that you can drive on the highway then fine go ahead with it.
BUT if this thing is only going to look tough thats only as capable as the FX then don't.
For me HUMMER is about OFF Roading and off road ONLY. Not exclusivity, cool looks, luxury and other ****. If their smaller H4, H5, H983498438 are offroad capable make it, if not then don't. Please pass that onto GM.

I would like something that is 100% off-road capable, gets 300 mpg, 0-60 in 3 secs with unlimited top speed, no chance of a rollover, with a rocket launcher! Whoo hoo!

My contacts are at GM are Clay Dean, currently works on the Hummer, also there with Mike Copeland, Advanced Vehicle Intergration. This is for the team partnership program called "PACE", and we are also working with BYU. Look them up, ask them, since your at the level you know.

tight that's exactly what GM wanted us to explore.Removable fenders, bolt in windshield, hydroforming, exposed parts. Overall looks like a lot of fun, and without the worry of messing up a 50,000-60,000 dollar hummer. Anything wrong with this Ford EX?

EXACTLY, just like the Ford EX, just with the Hummer look, and great name. YOU NAILED IT. Use of hydroforming, exposed engine and very capable.
http://www.seriouswheels.com/def/For...t-1280x960.htm
