Nope,

Just like the handheld GPS, it's free. It will find your position by the satellite positions available and it will lace over a map supplied via CD...something like that. But it is free.

DRTYFN, I think I'm gonna get a new set of license plates that starts with 5. My current plate starts with 4Z, the last of 4s. I can pretend to be a newer Hummer for whatever reason I can't really figure it out yet, and I don't think I'll put up a front plate anymore. I can find something to fill that square hole, maybe a statue of Elvis.

I have a winch instead of a front license plate and I pay $1.30 for gas........Never regretted the move from CA to NC.......especially now when the DMV fees here are $21 a year and sales tax on a Hummer is 3%.

Sounds like the GPS is a simple install...might could use it here.

The only change they will make to mine from the 6 stacker to the NAV is an extra wire to share the On-Star antenna for the GPS. 2004 model is almost exactly the same. If you don't like the NAV, the 6 stacker is available from the 2003 model. Same wiring harness, just an extra line for the GPS(to the On-Star antenna).

I'll post photos of mine when it's in. And I'll try to get the stock# for you guys if you need.

I just got the CA registration renewal notice, $361. Hard to imagine almost a year with the Hummer.
The regular gas is $1.89 to $2.09 now in No Callif. $1.75-$1.89 on highway 5, and $1.71 to $1.95 in Southern California.

I've been to NC, I like it there. $3M house here sells for $300K there, people are super friendly and well mannered. I met someone in a CA party, she visited NC a month before we visited, she said everyone is a racist and people were rude, she hated NC. We both visited Charlotte for about a week, amazing how differently we saw the same city and people.

So let me get this straight: no licorice dispenser for 2004???

I just installed a Garmin 5 GPS and it's all good. You can program in maps, track trails, gag mileage, elevation....just about everything. Best of all....I can easily pull it off the dash and take it with me to other vehicles, camping, etc.

Cost is about $450. It sits just behind the center air vents, faily low-profile, no holes need to be drilled!

One thing I'm learning about the Nav system for 2004. It seems that it cannot be ordered along with the 6-cd changer. The two are not compatible, which will be the same in the 2003.

I think for $2200 Canadian I'll stick with the 6 - cd changer rather then go the Navigation System. $2200 will buy me either a lot of maps,or about 8 years worth of On Star or even some great other accessories mentioned. The System Steve has sounds pretty good if I want to go that route. It's Hard to think of mine as "last years model already" I guess it will impact me more in the near future when I see One of these "Chromed Bohemoths" pull up beside me. Cross that bridge when it comes ......

Zazing,

The NAV system will only take 1 cd or 1 dvd. So if you get lost while watching "Babes of Ball Land" , you have to swap to the map cd.

As for removing my 6 stacker, the dimensions are exactly the same.

Detonate,

On-Star uses both cellular and GPS from what I'm told. I may be wrong, but I'll find out soon enough.

I am confused.

I've heard that the Nav system for 2004 will be the same as the Escalade Nav system (would make sense - both are GM/Delphi units in nearly the same dash).

In the Escalade with Nav, the Nav takes a DVD, then the 6-CD Changer is below.

It just doesn't make sense that you'd have a Nav system and not be able to play a CD at the same time - I don't know of a single auto manufacturer that sets up their vehicles that way.

Take a look below at the Caddy setup - you'll see the Nav and then the place to load 6 CDs just below the clock - right where our OnStar is located in the H2. Simple solution - move the OnStar to the rear view mirror just like the Caddy.

You make a good point h17 that you should be able to play CDs and have DVD navigation at the same time, but what I've heard from Hummer is consistent with Dennis.

They did say it is likely to be a Delphi/GM unit, much like the Escalade. Maybe the H2 dash is not constructed as efficienltly as the Escalade to have room for both?

Z, I thought you have the 04 dash photo which you posted before. Can you post again?

This is 03 dash, far better looking than Cadillac dash, that Cadillac dash looks OLD, looks like senior citizen RV.

Take a close look at that Cadillac senior citizen dash, the thing under the nagiv. is the climate control unit. Under the oldman clock, that is one ugly and tiny CD unit, could it be that the stereo was moved to the roof console with the drop down DVD/LVD? That is not a safe place to be/use. I checked my 02 Escalade brochures, Navig. is not available for 02. Looks like GM has some catch-up to do to match those big hi-tech screens on the Japanese and German cars. This GM navig. screen looks dated.

I don't recall posting the '04 dashboard. Maybe it was our founding member Hummerman.

Nav is available for 03 on the Caddy Escalade.

As in the picture, the radio controls are on the LCD screen of the Nav. One CD/DVD is loaded behind the LCD screen (which flips forward) and is used only for the navigation information.

The CD changer (for music) is located under the clock (see picture above) and is again controlled by the LCD of the Nav system (which is a touch screen).

I have test driven the Caddy Escalade and seen this in person plus I have the 03 brochure which states the same.

I'm also taking the 24 hour test drive tomorrow, so I'll confirm again. (*Unfortunately, none of the Hummer dealers were participating in the 24 hour drive program in my area, but I still wanted to drive one of the new GMs before purchasing. I'm 99% sure I'll still choose the H2.)

Well, just got done with a 24 hour test drive on the Escalade.

We should all hope that the 2004 H2 gets the same Navigation system.

The Escalade system is DVD driven and has the following features:

1 Band of AM (presets)
2 Bands of FM (presets)
Integrated XM radio (as an option)
Integrated control of the 6-CD changer
Navigation

The controls on the system and features including the interface are great. Couldn't ask for a better system and I have recently played with both the Infiniti and Lexus Nav systems. The GM/Delphi systems beats them all hands-down.

Any specific questions, let me know.

Does the integrated 6 disc reside behind the nav screen or does it take up another spot. The only other spot I see in the H2 would be to remove the OnStar controls. No big deal as I have no intention of using OnStar.

i am very interested in this swap to a Nav as we are going to use the H2 as a dingy behind our motorhome, so the nav for travelling in new cities would be a fabulous addition.

If I could swap one in now, I would order it immediately.

edit: I read your previous post (after I posted) where you stated the changer was a separate piece. Will it fit the OnStar slot if the OnStar is removed?

Look at the picture I posted above of the Caddy dash. The 6-CD changer is just below the clock.

This is approximately the same space where the OnStar system is in the H2.

The fix/retrofit/new way to do it for the 2004 seems pretty straightforward to me:

Put the OnStar system on the rear view mirror (like the Escalade) and put the 6-CD changer unit where the OnStar system currently is in the H2. The only engineering challenge that GM may be trying to surmount is that the shifter may (*repeat may - I haven't measured this) be in the way of getting CDs in and out of the changer.

This may be why GM hasn't firmed up exactly which Nav system is being used in the 2004 H2.

By the way - a single DVD (for maps) loads just above the Nav screen. Yes, I tried a movie DVD - does not work. One DVD contains all of the US and Canada.
