Alright...
For those of you who know me personally, y'all know how I am.
For those of y'all that don't, I don't really like to rock the boat, but will if pushed too far.
I have once again been dissapointed with with my service department here in San Antonio.
As I was replacing my tensioner pulley on my H2(that's a whole other story), I pulled off my front skid plate, and noticed that my fron diff was leaking again!
So... I take my H2 in on a friday morning, and and tell my Hummer service rep here in S.A. that my front diff is leaking again, and it needs to be fixed again! After he confirms that it's been less than 6 months since they last worked in this same problem, he agrees that it'll be covered under warranty, I also mention that my pittman and idler arm have been confirmed to be worn, and after he does not find any replacement of my pittman or idler arm, he tells me that this known problem of worn pittman/idler arm would not be covered under warranty, but he would gladly have one of his techs check them out to confirm that they are indeed bad "FOR $95"!?!?
I agree to let them work on the front diff issue, and then laugh at the fact that I don't need to pay $95 to tell me something I already know.
So, since my diff (re)work is covered under warranty, he takes me over to get me a rental vehicle, and calmly tells the rental associate "the rental vehicle doesn't have to be anything big, just whatever you've got".
Well...to make a long story longer, I end up with the crappiest rental vehicle that I've ever had.
It ends up being a Chevy Cobalt. This vehicle has got the fewest options in a rental vehicle that I've ever seen. The windows are a manual crank, the doors a manual locking, and with only 3300 miles on the vehicle, it already sounds like a production line reject.
It was my understanding, when you get warranty work done on your vehicle, you are to get a comparable vehicle as a loaner/rental. I knew it was bad, when the rental associate apologized for the size and quality of this vehicle as she handed me the keys.
I what made it harder to accept driving this vehicle was, me ex-wife had just taken in her $40k Conv Saab in for service a day earlier, and She gets a Cadillac STX, but when I take in my $65k H2 I get a Chevy Cobalt!! ((What's wrong with this picture!?))
To add more misery to this situation, I actually had plans to go out that night, but cancelled my plans, 'cause I was embarrassed to show up in a Cobalt, rather than in my H2.
Not to mention the fact that myself and my children had planned a trip to Austin on that Saturday. I ended up renting another vehicle, just so we could feel somewhat safe for the 2 hour trip.
I guess once your warranty expires, so do the perks of buying a luxury vehicle.
I'm sure if a person with a 2006 H2 were to drop off his vehicle, they would have been driving out with a nice full size Caddy or something comprable.
I know this dealership actually prides itself on it's customer service, but when a service department does something like this, it actually makes me hesitate bringing my vehicle in for any kind of service, much less for something that needs to be fixed again and again.
I apologize for the ranting, but I just had to tell someone other that the cat outside about my situation!
Thanks for listeing!

I've never gotten a rental for warranty work on my H2. I may be wrong, but I have noticed that you do get better service if it's a Cadillac/Hummer dealer rather than a straight Chevy/Hummer dealer...seems the caddie dealers know how to treat the customers better...

I've encountered the same, Ric. The only way around it is to specifically request the vehicle you want - and do it a few weeks ahead of time. They've been accomodating in that sense, no problems. I've had an Envoy and a Trailblazer in the past. But both times my husband took his Escalade in, he's gotten an Escalade as a loaner. I wish they would treat Hummer owners as well.

I've taken the H2 in twice for minor recall issues, the first time I got an Escalade, the second an SRX.

Did you know that with an H1 in for service no rental car is provided by AM General? Pretty crappy, huh?

Your understanding is correct. Its General Motors goal is to get you in a Better model than the one you currently have to try and upsell you on a better veh. However iam not sure how they can go about that Considering you have one of the top of the line veh. Already And god knows Enterprise only have so many veh. to choose from. Deffinatly Going down to a cobalt is a shame. I know GM is willing to do about 42 dollars a day on a none premium veh Which includes everything except cadillac and Hummer Thats what your entitled to under warrenty Just curious What type of mileage is on your current h2

This is a sore subject for me. My local dealer has no problem handing me a POS loaner. I've left my truck with them twice and both times they pull up a PURPLE Venture minivan. Both times I told them "I'm not driving that." The first time that got me a nasty chili-dog/armpit/ass smelling Impala, the second time I passed and paid out of pocket for a "clean" rental.
The service there is great but their loaners are just nasty.

I remember that fondly.
..And it was a green Malibu.

A minute or two later he points out the window to a purple minivan. I laughed at him and said "Im not driving that. What else do you have?"
Drove away in a green Malibu, pissed. The thing stinks so bad I can smell it on my clothes today at work. I emptied a bottle of Febreeze in it before bed, left the windows down all night, and it didnt touch the stench. There are spent matches on the drivers floor where someone apparently was lighting smokes and throwing them on the floor. There are other unidentifiable odors which could be coffee, chili, or something I don't want to know about.
Its unwashed, unvacuumed, I had to clean the inside of the windshield since I couldnt see crap in the sun from the smoke haze, and the front marker light is out and people can't tell if I'm turning. The thing only has ~9000 miles on it too!

I had a few issues with my first H2. The first couple of times I took it in, the rentals were another Chevy Pickup or a Caddy. After that, they went down hill.
Don't settle for that! They promise nice rentals when you buy the Hummer, it's okay if you expect a nice car to drive when yours is in the shop.
Why can't they get the front diff fixed?

Ric,
Bring that H2 of yours up to Sewell Hummer in Plano TX they have an awsome dealership and have the H3's for loaners. Best service I have ever had. Always doing the best they can even though I sometimes feel like a pain in their ass.
Brand new dealership with a test track almost finished!!!

As far as service goes, you definitely want to buy from a Hummer/CADDY dealer! Caddy service is on par with the best of 'em. I've had my H2 in once for warranty work (Parkway GMC/Hummer/Cadillac in Valencia, CA) and they gave me an Escalade with less than 3k miles on it. Of course, I've bought 5 vehicles from this large dealership over the past 3 years, including a Caddy, so they know me - and that helps....
